POWERPOINT PRESENTATION: FINAL ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
To understand how various diseases affect our body, communities and environment, students
must learn appropriate research skills to develop a professional presentation.
INSTRUCTIONS
After selecting your topic from the national notifiable diseases and conditions and providing the
appropriate outline and references, you will develop this final presentation. A significant portion
of your grade will be based on the content in your slides. Fully develop the following areas:
Problem Definition, Description of Agent, Description of Condition, Description of Host
Characteristics, Description of Environmental Attributes, Description of Temporal Variation,
Suggestions for Further Research, and Biblical Rationale. The student must address each area on
the slides and use the narration or audio presentation method. Failure to do so will result in a loss
of points.
For this assignment, you will create a PowerPoint presentation of at least 8–10 slides. The
PowerPoint presentation must be suitable for a professional meeting.
You will be graded on the presentational quality of your PowerPoint slides. Here are some tips
for a professional PowerPoint presentation:
Choose a PowerPoint design, color scheme, font type, and bullet types.
Organize the slides based on your headings and subheadings.
Include a title slide (at the beginning) and a reference slide (at the end of the
presentation).
Do not overload the slides with text and data.
Use bullet points to organize your text.
Keep the text abbreviated and concise.
Strive for clarity.
Choose a different layout for each slide.
Use pictures, graphics, charts, and graphs to illustrate key points.
Graphics must make the key concept clearer.
Use at least 30 point font size consistently throughout.
Final slides must emphasize key points or leave the audience with a question to think
about or answer.
You must also choose 1 of the following 2 options to include with your final presentation:
1. Type a narration for each slide in the notes section under each PowerPoint slide. The
narration must be at least 100 words per slide. The typed narration is what would be
orally presented, if you were to present this presentation in a professional meeting. Once
you have created your narrations in the notes section, go back through the slides and
eliminate words that are not necessary to your audience’s understanding. Delete bullet
points that you can explain better through your 100 word narration. Also, remember your
audience. This presentation must be suitable for a professional meeting.
2. Create an audio recording of yourself narrating your final presentation. The recording
must be clear and concise; each slide must be at least 30, but no more than 60 seconds
HLTH 485

long. Speak clearly and slowly, as though you were presenting in a professional meeting.
There are several voice recording software programs that can be downloaded for free.
Include a slide at the end of the presentation that lists all of the sources used in the presentation.
All citations or footnotes in the slides/notes section must be in current APA format.
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION: REFERENCE AND OUTLINE ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
To understand how various diseases affect our body, communities and environment, you must
learn appropriate research skills to develop a professional presentation. The outline provides a
blueprint for the final presentation and the reference provides evidence-based research.
INSTRUCTIONS
After researching your topic, you will provide an outline of the presentation in Microsoft Word
format and a 1-page reference page listing at least 10 scholarly sources in current APA format.
Use the example below to develop the following points in an outline format: Define the problem
(nature, extent, significance, etc.).
I. Describe the agent.
II. Describe the condition (briefly).
III. Examine the above sources for data on morbidity (disease occurrence) and mortality
due to the selected health problem.
IV. Summarize the data on the distribution of the selected health problem according to the
following factors. Use tables, graphs, or other illustrations whenever possible.
A. Host characteristics
1. Age
2. Sex
3. Nativity
4. Marital status
5. Ethnic group
B. Environmental attributes
1. Geographic areas
2. Social and economic factors
a. Income
b. Housing
3. Occupation
4. Education
C. Temporal variation
1. Secular
2. Cyclic
3. Seasonal
4. Epidemic
V. Suggestions for Further Research
VI. Biblical Rationale
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

Description of the Condition
Cancer is a genetic disease caused by
cells growing quickly and
uncontrollably
These cells may form tumors, which
can be cancerous or not cancerous
(benign).
Cancerous tumors undergo metastasis
to spread into, or invade, nearby
tissues
There are several main types of cancer
such as Carcinoma, Leukemia, and
Lymphoma depending on where the
malignancy begin.
Morbidity and Mortality Rates
In 2021, there were 20 million new cases reported across
the world.
By 2040, the number of new cancer cases per year is
expected to rise to 29.5 million(National Cancer
Institute, 2020).
By 2021, 9.8% of the world adults population had been
diagnosed with cancer
M M R C ..
Cancer is among the top two leading causes
of death globally
In 2021 alone, US recorded a total of
608,570 cancer related deaths (Benjamin,
2022).
By 2040, the number of cancer-related
deaths to 16.4 million is expected to rise to
29.5 million annually
Host characteristics-
Age
Morbidity and mortality rates are strongly related
to age, with the highest morbidity and mortality
rates being in older people.
On average, each year more than half (54%) of
deaths were in people aged 75 and over (Cancer
Research UK, 2015).
This largely reflects higher incidence and lower
survival for all cancers combined in older people.

Temporal Variation-
Epidemic
Cancer incidences are independent
in occurrences
A silent cancer epidemic might be
experienced in nature if corrective
measures are not taken (World
Health Organization, 2022).
Suggestions for Further Research
Exhaustive list of risk factors and their ratings
Significance of early life exposure to the development of cancer in
later years
Detailed exposure assessment to understand the causative
relationship between cancer and its agents(“Focus Issue: The Future
of Cancer Research,” 2022).
Biblical Rationale
There is no specific reference to cancer in the Biblical
scripture
However, some diseases as descripted could be cancer such as
King Hezekiah’s “boil” in 2 Kings 20:6–8.
The beginning of all diseases including cancer can be traced to
Gods curse to earth (Genesis 3:17)
Psalm 103:1–4 spells the hope that in the end, we shall
overcome the pain of cancer.
