Watergate
Half a century has passed since a break-in at the Democratic Party’s
national headquarters led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon
from office. Does the Watergate scandal still matter, and, if so, why does
it remain relevant?
In my opinion the Watergate scandal was terrible in American history because President Nixon
tried to cover up evidence that he was involved in illegal wiretaps and misconduct in the
Presidential election. The Watergate scandal was a break in at the Democratic Headquarters in
Washing, DC. This break in caused an investigation to happen because information was stolen
about a candidate. This investigation uncovered illegal activities and cover ups that led directly
back to the White House. This scandal eventually forced President Nixon to resign and select a
new Vice President before he would become impeached. This scandal is still relevant to today
because things that are happening in this Presidency. I say this because there is a scandal that is
happening with Russia and the Trump Presidency. There are many people that believe that
Russia hacked the Democratic Party to release evidence of Hillary Clinton so that she would not
win the Presidential Election. Documents are being released that state that President Trump’s
campaign was working with Russia to win the Presidential election. When President Trump fired
the FBI director James Comey, people were saying this is something that President Nixon would
have done to cover up and evidence of what he was doing. There will always be scandals in
Washington, cover ups, and secret agendas but what matters is if the American people will
know the truth and get all the details of what truly happened.
Bill Clinton left office as one of the nation’s more popular presidents. Yet
in the election campaign of 2016, his presidency came under attack from
some Democrats as well as Republicans. Describe what these groups
found troubling about his presidency and offer your opinion about
whether it is fair to radically reevaluate a president’s reputation.
Bill Clinton won the Presidential Election of 1992 with 43 percent of the votes over George Bush
with 38 percent and Ross Perot with 19 percent of the votes. He was the first Democratic
President to hold the office in twelve years. Bill Clinton was the youngest person to be elected
as President since John F. Kennedy. Clinton called himself a “New Democrat” because he
wanted to change the government and give a new approach to how things should be done.
President Clinton committed his administration to get Americans back to work, reduce the
federal budget, and “end welfare as we know it.” Clinton did achieve many of his goals but had
scandals come up during his Presidency. In the 2016 Presidential election President Clinton
came under attack by both sides because they found problems with many of the things that he
had accomplished. One of these was the North American Free Trade Agreement. This was under
attack because it eliminated tariff barriers between Canada, Mexico, and the United States, it
was meant to create millions of new jobs but in the long run people saw it as a terrible trade
deal that would cause American products to be the higher price being sold. People also saw this
deal as a cause to why many Americans ended up losing their jobs. Many critics blamed his
efforts on welfare reform caused hardship among the poor causing many of them to live in low
income housing or becoming homeless. In my opinion I don’t think its fair to look back on a
Presidency to reevaluate a reputation because things are originally done for the best interest of
the country and usually turn out that way until a new President comes into office to find a
better way to help the country become better than they were before.
The common impression of the 1970s is that it was far less significant than the
turbulent 1960s. Yet in certain respects, the 1970s had more profound
consequences for the future than its predecessor. Identify the most dramatic
changes that the 1970s brought to the country and describe their
consequences for the future.
The beginning of the 1970s was a tough time for a lot of people. Taxes had been in affect to help
pay for the Vietnam War. People were not happy because they did not believe in fighting in this
war because it did not help the United States and their people. This war caused people not to
be interested in the government because their faith was taken with all the lives lost in the
Vietnam War. In addition to the hardships of the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal began in
1972 causing more American citizens to lose their faith in politics and the government even
more. This scandal caused low morale all over the United States. Foreign powers also lost
respect for the United States because the U.S. had started to decline in domestic and foreign
affairs. America started to fall behind the rest of the world because the U.S. was not producing
as much products as other countries were. This scandal caused many consequences such as the
American people not trusting the government because they were spying on political campaigns
and were not considering the prevalent problems that were occurring in the country. The
American people were also having a crisis because they were struggling to afford a decent
lifestyle. Many Americans had to get a second or a third job just to live in the middle class
