GBST 103 Old Testament 1 - DB 2: Abraham's Faith
Thread: In Genesis 12:1, Abraham is commanded by God to "Go to the land I will show
you". A physical location is noticeably absent. What does this suggest about the purpose
of God leading Abraham to a new land? Is there a principle to be found in Abraham's
willingness to obey without foreknowledge of where he was going? Have you ever
experienced this in your own life? If so, answer in your final paragraph.

In this week’s discussion about “Abraham’s Faith” which he had met with what we refer
to today as extreme challenges and he never lost his faith in God. God had commanded
him to obey and to leave his father’s home and migrate to Canaan and stating that he
would become the father of a vast nation as much in number as there were stars in the
sky.
God has divine purposes for everything he does, and Abraham was no exception. God
needed to plant the roots of his people and Abraham’s offspring settled in Canaan which
was close to Jerusalem and as most of are aware is the roots of Jesus’s Ministry.
Whenever we must relocate into a new land or area, uprooting makes most of us very
uncomfortable not knowing what to expect. But thinking positive that a new
environment gives us a new perspective and outlook on life. But we are to have faith and
trust in God to provide for us during these times, the more trust we have, the better the
outcome knowing that God is always in control. Abraham did not know why God wanted
him to relocate, but he would later know that God revealed the plans he had for him and
humans, which required Abraham to obey what God put in his heart.
I personally had to relocate a lot in my life, being in the military and then doing the work
of the Lord all my life. At times, in all honesty my flesh wondered why God had me going
to a certain places and then was brought to my attention. It is simple, God’s loves us so
much, he wants to protect and keep us from harm so as to fulfill His purpose for our lives
bring glorify to him. I never experienced “settling down”, (that will come when the Lord
calls me home, AMEN!), but I long for the day when I can establish permanent roots and
have the physical comfort this brings especially with my physical disabilities, I endure
every day, I therefore leave it all in God’s hands for His eternal control with faith and trust
(Mathew 17:20 ESV).
