The struggle of an athlete to stay in shape and train all year long to be at a competitive
state day after day. There are so many different factors that can take place throughout the year
when an athlete is training. The two main factors that take place are psychological and physical
(Kellmann). Athlete have spent so much money through out the year on equipment, personal
trainers, and doctors to keep their bodies and minds in shape. The article talks about athlete
completing a screening questionnaire on recovery-stress. The different countries that participate
in the Olympics have put forth the money to make sure their athletes have a place to recovery
after each of their events throughout the competition. The best example I can think of is Lebron
James stating that he estimates that he spends over $1 million dollars a year to stay in the best
shape he can to compete in the NBA (National Basketball Association). The athletes have some
many different factors that effect on them like their home life, making sure fans get an
opportunity meet them, press conferences for their teams, and promoting their brands. As a
society we are encouraged to play as many different sports as possible throughout our life and
see which one interest us the most. Football is one of the most popular sport for people and can
be the most stressful when it comes to training. There are many rules when it comes to training in
the high school to professional level with coaches and players interaction during the season and
offseason.
Recovery for an athlete is critical when it comes to winning championships (Cheadle).
When an athlete is playing so many minutes in a game without having time for a break. The
athlete’s body is breaking down and will not be able to last long like the NBA playing so many
minutes in the game with hardly any time to recover. Players play one night the next day waking
up early to travel to the city and possible play a game or practice and then after travel back to
their home. Recovery is a key component of a workout routine since the body will have time to
regenerate and give the mind time to rest as well. Athletes are always on the go with no time to
rest, all they want to do is be the best player possible so they can provide for their families or
make sure they are set up them self. The athlete training during the season will take away time
from family or free time just to make sure they stay at certain condition and strength. The athlete
uses their offseason as a way to gain muscle and improve their skills but have more time to
recover and rest. The athletes are monitored to help prevent overtraining and reduce the number
of injuries that can occur. The medical staff, coaches, and trainers of each professional team goes
through extensive training to make sure the understand the awareness that need to be given to the
player trying to put to much effort into their training.
