The concept of The Internet of Things (loT) was foreign to me
prior to taking this course.The evolution of technology in
collaboration withloThas revolutionized the world we once
knew. loThas been labeled the “Next Industrial
Revolution.”(Coming Soon – IoT in 2022 – and the Year in
Review, 2021).
The Internet of Things rapid evolution is no different from
other transitional shifts.The rapid growth comes
withunsurmountable benefitsand challenges. Innovative
technology has transformed our day-to-day lives
fromtransportation to healthcare as well as education and
student learning. When it comes to education, IoT has an
impactful role that creates and supports collaborative
knowledge and methods to meet the diverse needs of
students.loThas totally restructured the education sector
(CygnisMedia, 2017) and according to Gul et al. (2017), IoT
technology has an integral part in how education will be
enhanced in the future.
loT is not limited to learning;it has not only changed
traditional teaching practice methods it has also brought
about significant changes to the infrastructure of educational
facilities including culpability for student’s physical security
andprovidecomfort and peace of mind to all stakeholders
and with regards to issues and concerns related to the rise of
violence and school shootings.For example, schools now
have intricate security systems that incorporate metal
detectors, and smarter locks tomonitorfacilities
intelligently.loTmakes learning experiences more efficient
for teachers and students. Smart interactive whiteboards
make it easier for teachers to present content that is more
engaging,loThelps school administrators by reducing
operating costs by streaming energy management and
managing inventory, Smart Classrooms have sensors and
access points that integrate the connection of digital
projectors, printers, interactive LEDs, and various
instructional technologies. Moreover, these devices can be
linked to the students’ academic accounts through a Local
Area Network (LAN) to gather data necessary to help
teachers design lessons based on success, or lack
thereof,tohelp prepare better differentiated instruction
methods (Gul et al., 2017).
