This study investigates the relationship between class attendance and academic
performance among students. The authors have collected data from university students in
different subjects to find out if there is a relationship between attendance and grades. The
findings illustrate that students with higher class-attendance frequency can outperform those
whose frequency of absence from classes is high. Furthermore, the authors add that this is
because students attending a class have much better understanding through the opportunity
provided for questions and instant answers and also engage in discussions for the improvement
of learning. It was reported that the students who never or rarely attended classes had poor test
scores, struggled with assignments, and had higher failure rates. This could be due to several
factors: perhaps they missed crucial explanations or examples provided by the teacher. Other
factors related to attendance, discussed in this study, are those of motivation. Some attend due to
a love for learning, while others simply do so because attendance policies are strict. They argue
that universities should give an impetus to attendance through more interactive lessons. Further,
the authors recommend extra support by the teachers for those students who could not attend
class due to reasons beyond their control. This article will help me in my paper as direct evidence
of the fact that attending class improves student success. I will use it to support the fact that
regular attendance leads to better academic outcomes. These results also explain the reasons why
students who do not attend classes constantly perform poorly in school. Additionally, it relates to
the section where schools can develop policies to ensure attendance, but not so strict that it

forces students to stay in school. Overall, the source helps solidify my paper by showing
evidence of a link between attendance and academic performance clearly.
Yılmaz, Ö. (2022). The Effect of Class Attendance on Learners’ Success in Mathematics
Course During Distance Education Process. International Journal of Progressive
Education, 18(3), 138–149. https://doi.org/10.29329/ijpe.2022.439.10
The source investigates class attendance in online class settings to influence student
achievement in mathematics. The focus was on students attending distance education because of
the COVID-19 pandemic. The author collected data from various students in schools and
analyzed how their attendance to online lessons affected performance. The findings reveal that
students who attended virtual classes regularly performed much better in mathematics compared
to those who missed most lessons. The reason is that such students who attend would ask
questions and be explained to by the teacher. While the students who did not attend the lessons
had a problem in comprehending complex concepts and showed lower performance in tests. The
study also reveals that students with access to a stable internet connection and a quiet study space
were more likely to join classes. However, students facing technical issues or being distracted at
home had low attendance and worse academic performance. The second important finding is that
students who participated in class discussions outperformed those who just listened passively.
From this, the author concludes that schools should invest in improving online learning resources
and encouraging student participation to achieve better learning outcomes. This article is
important to my paper because it shows that attendance matters, not only in traditional
classrooms but also in online learning. This again supports the notion that missing classes
adversely affects students' academic performance. I will use this source to explain why students
who regularly attend online classes perform better in mathematics. The study also shows

challenges in distance learning, like technical problems, which may reduce students' chances of
attending and succeeding. This will further enhance my paper in proving that support for
students both in physical and online classrooms is crucial to help improve their attendance and
academic success.
Akkuş, M., & Çinkir, Ş. (2022). The Problem of Student Absenteeism, Its Impact on
Educational Environments, and The Evaluation of Current Policies. International

)))))) Absence of students from school, impacts of absenteeism in education, and the effort by
schools to solve the problem are researched in this study. The authors explain that absenteeism is
an important issue since it relates to students and teachers. Without attending school, the students
hardly understand lessons during their catch-up, hence poor grades and motivation. They also
find that absenteeism causes problems for the teachers in repeating lessons or finding a way to
get students who were absent up to date. The authors obtained information from schools on the
causes of skipping class among students. They found that some reasons that explain students
missing class are because they get bored, other students due to family issues, or health concerns.
Another reason is the feeling of safety at school or bullying. The study also examines various
policies adopted by schools to reduce absenteeism. Some schools punish students for truancy,
while others try to incentivize attendance with rewards and support programs. The authors
believe that severe punishments, such as suspension, do not work because they alienate the
students from education even more. Instead, they recommend other measures such as counseling,
mentorship programs, and closer teacher-student relationships to enhance attendance. This
source is helpful in my paper since it offers a wide outlook on absenteeism and its impacts. I will

use it in explaining that absenteeism does not only affect the individual students but also the
entire school atmosphere. It justifies my stance that schools require efficient attendance policies
for helping the students rather than punishing them. This source reinforces my paper for proving
that the nature of absenteeism is complex and its solution is needed in order to show better
attendance, as well as students' success.
Ha, W., Ma, L., Cao, Y., Feng, Q., & Bu, S. (2024). The effects of class attendance on
academic performance: Evidence from synchronous courses during Covid-19 at a
Chinese research university.International Journal of Educational Development,104,
102952–102952. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijedudev.2023.102952
This source investigates the effect of online class attendance on student academic
performance at a research university in China during COVID-19. The authors analyzed data from
attendance in live online courses and compared academic performance based on attendance. The
results clearly show that students who attended classes regularly outperformed those who did
not. Live attendance allowed students to engage in discussions and get immediate feedback from
instructors that helped them to understand course material better. On the other hand, those
students who attended recorded lectures did worse on their exams and poorly performed their
assignments. The researchers also found out that students actively participating in online
discussions outperformed their peers who only listened. The authors underline that real-time
interaction, even in virtual environments, is key to academic success, and they suggest that
universities should encourage live attendance and adopt measures to make online learning more
engaging. They also recommend that attendance be recorded and that students who fail to come
regularly have special coaching. This article is useful for my paper because it gives credible
proof that online attendance is as crucial as physical attendance. It justifies my argument that

real-time interaction brings better learning outcomes. I will apply this study to prove that
students who actively engage in lessons tend to perform better than those who simply watch
recorded lectures. Overall, this source strengthens my paper by showing how attendance and
engagement are crucial for student achievement.

effects of attendance and high school GPA on student performance in first-year
undergraduate courses.Cogent Education,8(1), 1956857.
https://doi.org/10.1080/2331186x.2021.1956857
This research study tries to investigate the link between attendance of classes, high school
GPA, and performance in academics in freshmen students. Authors conducted an analysis to
explore which factor, a better predictor for college outcomes, was attendance or achievement in
school before college. Results showed that students with high attendance performed way better
than those with low attendance, regardless of their high school GPA. Also, it depicted that even
those who had promising academic backgrounds at high school faced difficulties at university
because of the frequent skipping of classes. However, those who had poor GPAs in high school
but had high attendance performed well, showing that going to class can help students overcome
their previous problems. The authors present the view that college success is itself a function of
active engagement, access to instructors, and participation in class discussions. They prescribe a
policy on the part of the university to incentivize attendance and grant accommodations in cases
where students are forced to miss classes for valid reasons. This article is useful to my paper
because it portrays how attendance is a better determinant of success than past academic
performance. I shall utilize this study in my argument to support the fact that attending classes

regularly means a lot in achieving academic success. The findings also reinforce my argument
that universities should be concerned with policies that enhance student engagement rather than
relying on high school GPA as an indicator of future performance. This research adds to my
paper with added evidence on the long-term effects of attendance on student achievement.

(2024). The effect of online class attendance on academic performance in finance
education.The International Journal of Management Education,22(3), 101023–
101023. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijme.2024.101023
This source discusses how the attendance of online classes affects students' performances
in finance courses. The authors analyzed data from university students and examined how
attendance influenced their academic success. The results indicated that students who attended
online lectures regularly achieved higher grades compared to those missing several classes. It is
indicated in the study that finance education involves complex conceptual issues, and the
students attending the class benefit from direct explanation and interactive discussion. It was also
established that the students participating actively in online discussions performed better than
passive listeners. This would, therefore, imply that engagement is very important in enabling
students to apply and retain knowledge. Another finding is that students who relied on recorded
lectures instead of attending live sessions had lower exam scores. This shows that real-time
interaction with instructors and classmates is crucial for academic success. The authors
recommend that universities encourage students to attend live online classes and design
interactive lessons to keep them engaged. They also suggest that instructors create an atmosphere
that encourages students to discuss and participate in class. This article was useful to my paper
because it provides some concrete evidence that, in subjects that are problem-solving and

analytically based, attendance is essential. I can use this research for my paper to support my
assertion that active class participation enhances academic performance. These findings
substantiate my assertion that learning is best achieved by attending the class in real life rather
than from recordings. This source consolidates my paper in that it evidences the importance of
attendance and participation for some heavy ideas to sink.
Henry, O. A., & Sulayman, D. G. (2022). Impact of lecture attendance on academic
performance of business education students in tertiary institutions: A case study of
Federal Capital Territory College of Education Zuba-Abuja.International Journal
of Vocational and Technical Education,14(1), 1–6.

)))))) This study examines the effect of attending lectures on the academic performance of
students studying business education at any tertiary institution in Nigeria. The authors examined
data obtained from students at the Federal Capital Territory College of Education Zuba-Abuja to
determine if attending lectures regularly or not would affect their academic performance. From
the findings, it can be observed that high levels of attendance are related to better performance in
both examination and coursework. Those students who attended the lectures more frequently
understood the course materials better, hence earning higher grades. In contrast, other students
who have poor attendance are having problems doing their assignments and performing
inadequately at assessments. Certain factors are shown to influence the attendance of this study:
the motivation of oneself, economic aspects, and regulations imposed by a particular institution
or college. As argued by these authors, this student is surely capable of higher academic
achievements. They want institutions of learning to ensure enforcement of attendance policy and
provide support for students missing classes frequently. This article will be useful to my paper by

adding evidence that regular lecture attendance contributes to student success. I will be using this
study in showing how classroom engagement improves performance. These findings again
support the view that an attendance policy should ensure participation rather than punish
absences.
