Pacing Guide for Kindergarten Mathematics
Abstract
This pacing guide presents a semester-long kindergarten mathematics plan divided over two
nine-week periods. It is aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and introduces
young learners to fundamental skills like counting, recognizing numbers, comparing quantities,
beginning operations, shapes, measurement, and data. Lessons accumulate on a daily basis in a
sequential way. Learners gradually progress from concrete experience towards abstract
knowledge. The pacing guide incorporates pre-tests, post-tests, review time, and space for
flexible instruction to accommodate holidays, school events, or unexpected disruptions. By
directly connecting lessons to CCSS standards, pacing maintains consistency and responsibility
in instruction. As an operational instructional tool and instructional map, the document assists
instructors in providing continuity, readiness, and accomplishment for students as they establish
essential early numeracy skills throughout the semester.
