Part 1
1. Prompt Question: Under each test, list all cluster areas and
their corresponding subtests that comprise each cluster area
that assesses reading skills. Compare all 3 tests and discuss
at least two reasons you may prefer one test over another to
assess reading.
2. Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement:
1. Cluster Area: Broad Reading
Subtest Comprising Cluster Area: Letter-Word Identification, Passage
Comprehension, Sentence Reading Fluency
2. Cluster Area: Broad Written
Subtest Comprising Cluster Area: Spelling, Writing Samples, Sentence
Writing Fluency
3. Cluster Area: Phonemic-Grapheme
Subtest Comprising Cluster Area: Word Attack, Spelling of Sounds
4. Cluster Area: Broad Math
Subtest Comprising Cluster Area: Applied Problems, Calculation, Math
Facts Fluency
B) Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Third Edition (WIAT-III)
1. Cluster Area: Oral Language

Writing Fluency
5. Cluster Area: Math Composite
Subtest Comprising Cluster Area: Math Concepts and Applications, Math
Computation, and Math Fluency
2) Compare all 3 tests and discuss at least two reasons you may prefer
one test over another to assess reading.
I found that there were several similarities between the Woodcock-
Johnson Test
of Achievement,
Wechsler
Individual Achievement Test,
Third Edition, and Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement-III. In terms
of what they are designed to assess, the cluster areas are quite similar.
As far as reading is concerned, I think I would use the Kaufman Tests of
Educational Achievement. Only the WIAT-III and K-TEA-III measure oral
language skills as well as other reading and writing skills. I do think that
the Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement has more reading
composites and subtests which would allow you to have more
information on the strengths and weaknesses of your student. “One
prominent oral language construct is listening comprehension, listening
comprehension skill is necessary for reading comprehension”(Kim et al.,
2020, para ). Students’ comprehension of spoken language is a defining
factor for their reading comprehension. Reading comprehension is the
ultimate purpose of reading. Oral language also lays the foundation for
reading and writing skills that children will develop as they progress
through school. The WIAT-III also has many subtests that build on
previous skills. So if a student is having a problem or scored low on a
cluster you could see what skills you need to work with on the student.
2) Prompt Question: Compare all 3 tests and discuss at least two
reasons you may prefer one test over another to assess math.
In comparing the Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement, Wechsler
Individual Achievement Test, Third Edition, and Kaufman Test of
Educational Achievement-III that only the WIAT-III and the K-TEA-III have
math components. I would use the Kaufman Test of Educational
Achievement-III to assess math. I would use the K-TEA-III because it
allows oral responses as well as written responses to questions on the
assessment. I also like that the K-TEA-III assesses math concepts and
applications. This could potentially provide more understanding of the
student’s mathematical knowledge. “One of the most important aspects
of aspects of assessment is feedback. Feedback encourages the
development of mathematical and scientific thinking”(Cohen & Spenciner,
2015, p. 271).
