E/GA/CT/L/LI/MA/MU:
The teacher will begin to explain
the definition of a beginning
consonant and consonant blends.
The teacher will make sure the
students are connecting the
sound they hear with the letter
that represents that sound in
particular. After discussing what
they are, the teacher will show
the video initial consonant
sounds by Jack Hartman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=JVYa4Vv4mYY. Students will
then cut and glue beginning
consonant sounds on clip cards in
groups at their table. Students
should demonstrate fairness
being sure to do their share of the
work. For independent practice,
students will complete a
matching worksheet on their
own.
EVAL: Teacher will observe
while groups are working as well
as collect the independent
matching worksheet for
understanding.
CT/LI/M/MA/T
The teacher will read Fraction
Action by Loreen Leedy. She
will then explain what fractions
using models means. After
discussing, the teacher will then
“model” fractions using models
using manipulatives. The
students will then use chrome
books to navigate through an
interactive PowerPoint of
fractions using models. Students
will then complete a worksheet
independently for practice.
Eval: Teacher will collect the
independent worksheet as well as
informal observing during the
lesson.
DA: Students not tech savy will
be provided a printout of the
Power point to follow along with
the class.
CM/CT/GA/L/OL/S/T/W
The teacher will introduce plant
classification before watching the
video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=IYxfz1PSfZ0 . After the video
they will go through a
PowerPoint in groups on their
chrome books. When the
PowerPoint is over, they will be
given the materials to begin their
interactive notebooks that will be
used for several units. They will
proceed to start taking notes and
putting their interactive notebook
together.
EVAL: Teacher will walk around
and observe while also assisting
students.
LI/L/HI/W
The teacher will introduce
Powhatan using the biography
https://www.biography.com/politi
cal-figures/powhatan and
explaining some about the chief.
She will then use the website
http://www.bigorrin.org/powhata
n_kids.htm showing interesting
facts of Powhatan allowing
students to take turns reading the
facts out loud.
Students will write a 2 to 3
sentence summary on what they
learned of the Powhatans for
their writing piece of the day.
DA: Students who have trouble
writing will have access to a
computer to type their
assignment.
Fine Arts: Students will draw a
picture or painting of their own
representation of the Powhatan
Indians.
P.E./Movement: Students will
exercise at the start of class
naming beginning consonant
sounds.
Health:
Students will discuss how some
plants can be dangerous to
humans and how to avoid them.

The teacher will begin by
reviewing the definition of
consonant as we as review the
beginning consonants from the
previous day. She will use an
anchor chart during whole group
instruction to write different
beginning consonants as the
students say them out loud.
Students will break apart into
groups creating blends puzzles to
practice.
CM/CT/GA/M/MA
The teacher will review fractions as
models on the smartboard. The
students will then use IXL to review
and practice during whole group
instruction.
https://www.ixl.com/math/lessons/fr
action-area-models
Students will then work in small
groups completing a sort and match
activity using scissors and glue.
EVAL: The teacher will write a
word problem on the board
asking what the fraction
represents using area models.
They will turn it in as their ticket
out the door for the teacher to
check for understanding.
CM/CT/GA/L/OL/S/T
Teacher will review plant
classification.
Students will create a flip chart
in their interactive notebook
listing different types of plants
along with characteristics of
those plants. This activity will be
completed in groups.
When finished, students will be a
given a plant classification card
matching game to play with a
partner.
CM/GA/LI/HI
The teacher will show a video
about the Powhatan Indians
using
https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=0IX7QpYppik .
After discussing, students will
begin to gather research and
information on the Powhatan
chief and Indians in order to
prepare for a project. Students
will split the group work equally
being sure to keep the fairness in
the project.
DA: Students who have a hard
time seeing will be allowed front
row access to watch the video.
Fine Arts: Students will use art
materials to create a plant of their
choice.
Health: Students will discuss
how the Powhatans lived, and
how their clothing and food
choices are different from ours
today.

beginning consonant sounds in
an activity called Write it See it,
meaning the teacher and
students move through the
presentation together. The
students will see a picture and

Students will then receive an
independent practice worksheet
on beginning consonant sounds.
CT/LI/M/MA/T
The teacher will use the ticket

strategy to make sure all students
keep up which means being fair
to all. She will then do a short
review of fractions using models
on the board then split the class
into small groups. One group
with work on Iready (chrome
book), one group will complete a
independent worksheet, and one
group will work with the teacher.
The groups will rotate after 15
minute increments. While with
the teacher, students will use
manipulatives to create fraction
models and write them on small
whiteboards while the teachers
observes for correctness.
CC/CM/CT/GA/PE/S
This activity will be completed
with the other first grade classes.
Students will be given a checklist
with different types of plants on
it. They will be given the
opportunity go outside around
the school and surrounding areas
with teachers and chaperones to
guide. They will put a check on
their paper if they see a particular
plant that matches the
description, characteristics, or
type of plant from their paper.
The last ten minutes of class will
be in the classroom. Students
will have a matching
independent worksheet to
complete.
EVAL: Teacher will collect the
independent worksheet for
understanding.
DA: Students with physical
limits will be allowed to stay
inside and complete their
assignment using the int
ernet.
CM/CT/GA/HI
Students will use research from
the previous day to create a
poster or tri-board. The project is
about the Powhatan Indians and
their chief.
What should be included is who
the chief was, where they lived,
what they wore, their crops, and
their ways of living.
EVAL: Students will turn in their
project for formative assessment
and grading.
Fine Arts: Using provided
materials, students will create a
head piece similar to the
Powhatan Indians.
P.E./Movement: Students will
resume the pacers. As they run to
one side and touch the line, they
will recite a plant classification.

fractions in our everyday life
focusing on pharmacists and
doctors needing to understand
fraction in order to keep us
healthy.
