Developmental Case Study
When humans are born, they go through specific milestones. In General, all humans will
go through those milestone at one point or another. The timing of these milestones will vary
depending on the person. There are several stages that a person will go through life: they are
based on age. This paper focuses on two children that are in different stages. Haylee is 10 years
old, and Bella is 6 years old. Haylee and Bella were playing at the church playground while
being observed.
Haylee
Haylee is currently in the early adolescence stage in childhood development. Haylee is
taller than her sister, and has already started puberty. Her body is already developing specific
sex-characteristics of girls. This growth spurt is common for her age. McDevitt & Ormrod report
that “girls typically progress through puberty before boys.” Based on this statement, Haylee is
on track in the physical development area.
While Haylee was playing with her sister, she clearly was in charge. She dictated what
to play or who did what. She took on the role of the leader. Her social skills with the other
children dictate that she is still comfortable with her body and isn’t concern with her changing
body yet. She wasn’t nervous or hesitant. She was very confident in her actions. This could be
due to her being the oldest. There weren’t any children who were in the early adolescent stage
that could cause her to care about how she looked.
Haylee also demonstrated some prosocial behavior. She demonstrated the trait sympathy.
