K.PS.1 The student will apply the data cycle (pose questions; collect or acquire
data; organize and represent data; and analyze data and communicate results)
with a focus on object graphs and picture graphs. a) Sort and classify concrete
objects into appropriate subsets (categories) based on one attribute (e.g., size,
shape, color, thickness).

(a) Students will be given a group of objects and be asked how they can be
classified LO-1
(b) Independently given a set of objects students will need to sort them
according to an attribute. LO- 2

the attributes are and be able to sort a group of objects into the attributes. LO- all

(a) In pairs students will work together to sort objects into attributes. SA-a
(b) In small groups one student will sort a set of objects and the other students
will be asked by which attribute did they sort the objects. SA-b
(c) As a class we will watch a video reviewing the attributes and then students
will be called up to sort objects on the smart board or classify how the objects
are sort3ed by picking an attribute. SA-c

(a) Given sets of objects students will independently be able to identify which
attribute goes with each set of objects. LO-1
(b) Students will have to sort objects by a given attribute and be able to identify
why that set can be sorted by that attribute. LO-2
(c) Unit test: students will need to be able to know the different attributes, be
able to sort items into those attributes and be able to see a set of objects and
identify which attribute fits it. LO- all

attributes, after the video students will be asked to identify or sort objects into

write a sentence of why the attribute goes with that set, SA-b
(c) On the smart board, as a class, students will come up and sort objects by a
given attribute, identify the different attributes and look at a set of objects and
identify which attribute belongs with which set of objects. SA-c
