Textbook Reflection: Social & Cognitive Constructivism
Part A – Textbook Information
Read each of the three prompts below and respond by writing one solid paragraph of at least five
sentences. Make sure you use your textbook to support your responses.
1. Discuss at least one experience and/or observation with collaborative and cooperative
learning. Describe the classroom activity that took place with your experience and/or
observation. Explain your viewpoint on this with at least one solid paragraph of five sentences.
In my first-grade classroom, I have observed students working collaboratively and
cooperatively. Students were studying the arctic. Students were paired in groups of two and
given the same animal to research. They had to their own research for this project and then come
together to compare what they learned and put it into a presentation for the class. Collaborative
learning takes place any time students work productively together, whether they are practicing a
basic skill or solving a complex problem (Maxim, 2017). For cooperative learning I have
observed the students working in groups of 4 to complete to complete several stem activities.
One of those activities was to make a catapult out of a spoon, popsicle sticks, and rubber bands,
and see how far they could get a cany pumpkin to go. Cooperative learning is the instructional
use of small teams, consisting of students of various ability levels, working together to
accomplish an instructional goal (Maxim, 2017).
2. Explain how social studies teachers should use collaboration to promote creativity and inquiry
in social studies instruction. Explain your viewpoint on this with at least one solid paragraph of
five sentences.
Social studies teachers should use collaboration to promote creativity and inquiry in
social studies instruction by letting students use their prior knowledge and the research of a topic

to come together to share their ideas. By letting students share their ideas and thoughts, you are
guiding them to critical thinking. Collaborative learning may include students teaching one
another, students teaching the teacher, and the teacher teaching the students (Maxim, 2017). By
being able to share their own personal experiences with their peers and their teachers promotes
collaborative learning.
3. What is the role of questioning and research in these practices? Explain your viewpoint on this
with at least one solid paragraph of five sentences.
The role of questioning and research in social studies is very important. Social studies
comes with a wide range of topics and viewpoints. Collaboration and inquiry promotes students
to excel in the subjects being taught. Collaborative and cooperative learning comprise an ideal
partnership with social constructivism primarily because they require students to work together
to achieve goals in ways they could not attain individually (Maxim, 2017). It is good for students
to be able to come together and learn from each other.
Part B – Biblical Worldview
Select one of your responses to the prompts above and fully explain your response utilizing a
biblical perspective. Make sure you include a Bible verse and explain how this verse is relevant
to the prompt and supports your biblical perspective. This section should be two solid paragraphs
of five sentences each.
In our walk with Christ, we need to study and research the Bible. It is also important for
us to come together as Christians and talk about what we learned and compare how we translate
God’s word. 1 Corinthians 1:10 says, “I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be
perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement.” By collaborating with
