Written Communication Evaluation
Communication is one of the most crucial soft skills we must learn at an early age and it
is also a main focus of any successful relationship. The importance of parent/teacher
communication is extremely important for the success of the student in the classroom and it is
also of utmost importance for the parents to know about their child's wellbeing. In many of our
students' homes their daily life consists of working parents trying to balance work, sports, after
school programs and many other things that life will throw at them. As an educator keeping an
open communication about upcoming schedules and special events is necessary for each student
to have a successful year. One way to create this path of open communication would be through
a classroom newsletter, when creating a newsletter you are helping build bridges for any
communication gaps that may occur through the school year between the educator and the

parents.
Classroom newsletter can be sent monthly, weekly and biweekly, depending on what the
educator would like to accomplish. Monthly newsletter gives the parents ample time to prepare
for those important upcoming events.A classroom newsletter contains information on classroom
activity and learning environment, important dates, mini student interviews,kindness corner and
other interesting topics that can enhance student learning. When creating these newsletter you
can also invite parents to come and volunteer in the classroom,which is another great way of
using this as a tool to build that parent/teacher relationship.
Newsletters can become a valuable tool to maintain that communication line open
throughout the school year.When working in education maintaining a consistent line of
communication between the educator and parent can be essential for the success of the student.
When a parent is involved it helps the child know that they have some support at home and in the
classroom, which can be very helpful when any issue arises throughout the school year.
The newsletter can come with many strengths and weaknesses, one of those strengths is
that the communication with parents will always be present, by sending reminders of when the
new newsletter will be posted or printed and it also gives monthly updates to those parents that
enjoy being involved in their kids' education. One of the weaknesses for the newsletter would be
the additional work load for the educator. An educator's time is very precious on a day to day
basis from handling district deadlines to state testing. It can be a bit to handle, but I truly believe
that if it is handled correctly and in a timely manner it can be a huge time saver for parents and
educators.
