EDUC 303 Lesson Plan

VII.Biblical/ Character Education Principle: Remember, God counts. Philippians 4:19 “And my God
will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” It teaches
them of how many blessings God gives to then. They can make a list as a class orally of 20
blessings that God has given them. James 1:2 “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you
meet trials of various kinds,”
VIII.Procedures:
A.Set: 1. Explain to the students that they will be working with counting from 0-20 today.
IV.Objective: Given a list of different circles with different amount of cupcakes, each student will
be able to count objects up to 20 and write numbers one through twenty 9/10 times
correctly.
V.Materials: -Class set of the Number Cards 1-20
-Count My Blessings 1-2-4 Board Book By Thomas Nelson
- Resealable bags to hold sets of number cards
VI.Technology Connection: Using smartboard and playing Count to 20 and Workout by Jack
I.Subject and Grade Level: Kindergarten Math
II.Topic: Number and Number Sense
III.Subtopic: Counting and recognize numbers
IV. STANDARDS
A. Virginia Standard of Learning: K.3 The student will a) count forward orally by ones
from 0 to 100; b) count backward orally by ones when given any number between 1 and 10; c)
identify the number after, without counting, when given any number between 0 and100 and
identify the number before, without counting, when given any number between 1 and 10; and
d) count forward by tens to determine the total number of objects to 100.
Common Core State Standard:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.1Count to 100 by ones and
by tens. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.2
Count forward beginning from a given number within the known
sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.3
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a
written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
IX.
iii.Independent Practice: Worksheet on counting different cupcakes in a circle and they have
to write the amount in each circle.
Closure: 1. Bring the students back together
2. Play the Count to 20 and Workout by Jack Hartman
3. Write the word “counting” on the board, and explain that counting is any number
that you can use for counting things. I will put a set number of students in front of the other
students and show them an example of counting.
4. I will ask the students to make a list as a class of blessings that God has given them.
5. Display the class set of number cards and have the whole class count to 20 with me.
6. Ask the students to go back to their desks.
7. Hand out the template with the different circles with different amount of cupcakes.
8. Go around and assist and struggling students with this task.
9. When the students are finished, bring them back together to explain the next activity.
B.Developmental Activities:
i.Instruction: 1. Gather my students where they can see the interactive whiteboard
2. Read the book : Count My Blessings 1-2-3 Board book By Thomas Nelson
3. Show the students the bag of number cards and demonstrate pulling one
out
4. Hold up the number and have the students tell you what number that is.
5. Model how to write the number in the air, and then have students practice
writing each subsequent number in the air.
6. Ask the students to go back to their desk
7. Give each student some shaving cream in front of them and tell them to try
and practice writing numbers in the shaving cream.
8. Go around and watch any student doing this activity and help where this is
needed.
ii.Guided Practice: Creating a list of 20 blessings that God has giving them as a group but
first they will be split into different groups then come back as a whole class to make a list
orally and write 5 of the blessings on a sheet of paper so they can practice writing the
numbers and words. Then in their groups I will give them a worksheet to fill in the missing
numbers.
X.
E. Multicultural Connections: I will provide used leaves or parts of a tree or flower that
is related to other students cultural background for the students to count, I will also
allow my students to write and count their number in English and their native
2. Select 20 students and give them numbers between 1-20
3. Ask the group to get in order from 1-20
4. Play the Count to 20 Workout by Jack Hartman video again, and have the students
sing and move.
Diversity/Differentiation for Exceptionalities:
A.Learning Styles (modalities / multiple intelligences): tactile learners can use stickers
to “write” their problem down on the worksheet; auditory learners can create songs
to explain problem; for visual learners I will provide picture cards of the materials with
numbers that correspond with each picture quantity.
B.Gifted: To challenge students, put students in pairs. Tell the students to put their numbers in
order from 1-20. Have one of the students look away while the other flips a card or two over.
The other student looks at the number and says what card is flipped. Then switch and
repeat. I will also provide them with double-digit number cards to use for the problems and
have them model to their fellow peers that are having some trouble.
C.LEP: Sit them near the teacher or a student buddy, give them a set of the number cards in
English and Spanish. I will also ask the student show me and their peers how they worked
out a problem rather than orally explain, or provide them with extra time to think and
express themselves verbally; if they are able to write down the problem, they can ask a
fellow peer to orally tell them their problem so they can learn how to read, write, and recite
it themselves.
D.LD, ED, ADD: I will provide these students with extra time to complete assignments, provide
them with extra activities to engage and keep their attention. For the LD students I will turn
the lesson into a song.
language.
XI.Summative Assessment/Evaluation:
A.The students were successfully able to give a list of different circles with different
number of cupcakes; each student will be able to count objects up to 20 and write
numbers one through twenty 9/10 times correctly.
B.I will create a checklist and mark whether each child is able to count to 20 and express
how far they can count to.
C.I will work one on one with ones that have trouble when it comes to learning or have
a special disability.
