MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES
Classroom Management Assignment
After speaking to several veteran teachers, I found ways that I would manage my
classroom. The teachers I spoke to had great advice about seatwork, collecting and monitoring
assignments, maintaining records, and managing paperwork. This management plan is based on
what I will do for a Kindergarten classroom.
1. Seatwork – I will have most of the kindergarten seatwork during our morning centers.
If I have a classroom with 24 students, I will place them in groups of 6 rotating through 4
centers. I’ll try to move my children every 15 minutes using a timer because this seems to be
about how long their attention can stay on track. I’ll use the timer as a time saving tool, and the
students will learn that when the timer goes off, it is time to switch centers. During one of their
centers, they will complete seatwork that I’ve gone over before the centers begin. The seatwork
will be a review or practice page that they can complete with little or no help. The next center
that they will rotate to is with me. They will bring their work with them to my center so I can
quickly check their work. If it is completed correctly, I will have them put it in their cubby. If
not, I’ll keep it until later in the day when the children are at free choice centers, and I’ll call
those who needed more guidance over to complete the work with me. If there isn’t enough time
to go over the work, I will have them put it in my basket to be checked later. They will take the
highlighter attached to the basket, and highlight their name before adding it to the pile. This will
help eliminate "no name" papers.
2. Collect and monitor assignments - I’ll have 4 tables that the children sit around. To
save time, a new table captain will be in charge of collecting the needed supplies, passing out,
and collecting papers for their table. I think it is so important for children to feel needed, and to
be responsible as well. I’ll have 4 little items for each month (plastic apples for sept, a rubber bat

for Oct. etc.) that the captain keeps in his/her tool basket for the day. This will make them feel
important, and help me know at a glance who my captains are for the day. I will monitor the
students while walking around the tables checking for understanding. Proximity is essential in a
kindergarten classroom so I won't sit down very much during the day. The children will have
cubbies assigned to them with a class number that is on their tool basket, and on their cubby.
Their name will also be on their cubby so they learn their name and number quickly. At the
beginning of the year I’ll file papers, but as the year progresses and they are learning to read each
other's names I will have my "lucky day" kids file for me. One boy and one girl will be the lucky
day kids each day. They will lead the flag salute, and also run messages to the office or library
for me along with filing any papers that need to go in the cubbies.
3. Maintain records – As a teacher, I hope to use an online program to help me keep track
of test results and other grades. I will also use a clipboard with a class list down the side, and
grids to record who brought back field trip permission forms, who returned their book baggie,
homework etc. I’ll also have a wall chart for this too. Teachers used to use hand held record
books, but there are so many great online programs available now that I plan to use.
4. Manage paperwork – Managing paperwork can be a challenge because of the number
of activities we will do in a day. They won’t always use paper for every activity, but at the same
time they will usually take home about 5 papers a day to accommodate reading, math, writing,
spelling, and science/social studies. The cubby system will be the way I manage most paperwork
that is sent home. At the end of the day, the table captain will lead his group to the cubbies. They
will get all their papers out, and lay them on their table. Then they will collect their lunch box,
backpack, and jacket. They will put their backpack on the back of their chair, unzip it and put

their papers inside. This will require a lot of practice for the students, but it will make managing
paperwork much easier in the long run.
Ultimately managing my classroom will be easier when I have a system that is set up
ahead of time. I found interviewing teachers to be very helpful in coming up with methods that I
feel will be useful in my future classroom.
