Encouraging all Pre-K through 4th grade students to be more literate is one of the
objectives that the Atlantic City School District is hoping to accomplish in the next five years. At
the conclusion of each school year, every student in Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade will
have improved their reading ability by one grade level from their current level, in quantifiable
terms. Storyboard That can be used in literacy sessions, which is one of the numerous approaches
to help elementary students become more proficient readers. There must be goals and objectives
if literacy is to rise. The first goal is for every student to get 20% more vocabulary proficiency
per quarter. Each student will add 20 sight words to their reading list per quarter as the second
objective. Thirdly, every student is expected to gain 15% more sight word knowledge every
quarter.
Storyboard That may be used in the classroom in a variety of ways to support education
and raise students' literacy levels. Using Storyboard That, students may make vocabulary spider
maps of new and unfamiliar terms. With the use of the spider maps storyboard, students can
improve their vocabulary by defining and illustrating important terms. Another strategy to
improve students literacy by using Storyboard That, is to illustrate the meaning of each word
both independently and in relation to other words, this enables students to quickly and simply
construct their own visual definitions or sceneries. The benefit of letting students design their
own visual definitions is that they are unique to each individual learner. Developing an
interactive storyboard template where students move the appropriate sight word picture and
position it correctly in the text is another technique to improve student literacy.
