love, because with love one can accommodate differences. Different families have different
values and guidelines that have shaped how the children are brought up. In most instances the
family values are linked to cultural and religious beliefs and values. Hence it is crucial to
understand the cultural background of your partner before marriage to help in establishing a
connection. As the family grows there are various challenges that might impact on the overall
satisfaction. Effective communication plays a vital role in ensuring that the family remains
connected. You have also highlighted on one of the crucial factors of financial independence. The
concept of kangaroo generation offers barriers in gaining financial independence. The readiness
of parents to accommodate and finance their adult children exposes them to tendency of laziness
and starting a family of their own will be problematic. Financial independence allows the
individual adults to understand the importance of responsibility and how they need to budget
appropriately to allow them to start their own family (Taroza, 2020). The dependence on parents
might also create conflicts due to interruption by in-laws on every decision making. The decision
to start a family should be accompanied by the knowledge that there will be challenges in the

community. The institution of marriage results in the beginning of family through procreation.
God had clear intentions in regards to marriage and family. Genesis 1:28 stresses that, “God
blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.
Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on
the ground.”” It is from one marriage that a whole generation is established. However the current
society has been dominated by different issues which have changed the definition of marriage
and family (Putniņa, 2019). The issue of same sex marriage for example has led to the difference
regarding the intentions of God and the family. Adoption has been considered as an option that
members can be considered to belong to the same family. As believers it is crucial to maintain
our stand in regards to the institution of marriage. Genesis 2:24 highlights that, “That is why a
man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”
Becoming one flesh means acknowledging the difference in culture and reaching an agreement to
work towards satisfaction. The first step of growing as a family is acceptance and taking time to
understand each other. Effective communication helps in building a good relationship with each
other.
