Abstract
This personal working theory paper will examine a theoretical orientation that incorporates
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Existential Therapy. Facets of client’s backgrounds in
relation to emotional and physiological experiences, thoughts, actions and behaviors, family
including past childhood experience, and culture. Each of the counseling strategies of CBT and
Existential Therapy will be explained in depth, addressing their treatment strategies and the
mechanisms at which they produce the intended changes in clients. A Christian worldview will
then be applied to the treatment interventions of CBT and Existential Therapy to ultimately
produce a personal working theory that us a sound eclectic approach to counseling.
