Summary

article by Sevilay Demirkesen and Beliz Ozorhon published in November 2017 in ScienceDirect,
is an example of innovative research that examines the function of managing integration in
project management. Project performance relies heavily on integration management since it
ensures the effective incorporation of the personnel and activities within the project (Demirkesen
& Ozorhon, 2017). The authors aimed to investigate the effect of various components of
managing integration on the managing and completion of a project and to evaluate their
connection to integration management. The components analyzed included integration of
knowledge, project charter development, incorporation of staff, integration of the project
activities, the supply chain, and changes (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). In contrast, the aspects
of the performance of project management included safety, costs, time, quality, and consumer
satisfaction.
The researchers created and administered questionnaires to construction specialists in
Turkish construction organizations, majorly extensive engineering, construction, and architecture
companies. The authors sent out five hundred and eight questionaries. One hundred and twenty-
one were returned, with twenty-two being face-to-face interviews administered with twenty-two
specialists to improve the response level (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). The main strength of
this part of the research is the inclusion of participants from upper management levels in
construction firms which ensures the research findings gave a clear picture of the necessity of
effectively managing integration to ensure the success and management of a project.

The researchers analyzed the data gathered from the one hundred and twenty-one
questionnaires using an SEM tool, Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS). The authors
selected the SEM tool to analyze their study because it offered several advantages concerning
logic, accuracy, and complexity (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). The tool was also effective for
the research because it allowed various indicator parameters for a project concurrently, giving
accurate interpretations on the extent of construction. Additionally, the tool took into account
errors that might have occurred during measurement, which promoted the coming up with
conclusions that were not biased.
Results
They administered questionnaires to gather data on the success level of each integration
management component in a construction project management. According to the findings, it was
evident that the participant construction professionals successfully attained quality in their
construction projects (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). Moreover, the firms also satisfied the
safety and time objectives of their projects. The researchers conducted an extensive literature
review to find the indicators of every construct. These indicators were revised with the help of
two constriction industry professionals and three professors from the university who participated
in the test run to establish the good effect of the project.
The findings also proved that their variables effectively expressed all the factors due to
the presentation of factor loadings for every factor. There was also an observation of minimal
differences in the two factors' parameters based on how they were placed on the factors; for
example, consumer satisfaction was observed to have a strong relationship with the performance
of project management as compared to cost and safety, which the researchers found to be
accurate indicators (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). This led the researchers to conclude that the

integration components chosen for every part of the research were logical signs and adequately
represented their form. The reliability analysis was assessed using the Cronbach's 'α' coefficient,
and it confirmed that the integration and performance of project management constructs were
consistent.
The research results revealed that managing integration had a significant effect on the
performance of a project and its management. Furthermore, the type of construction project
showed minimal effect on integration and project management performance. The researchers did
a good job in the presentation and interpretation of their results. Using tables and figures to
present the results made it easy to follow through with the research because the results were
presented in them. From the findings, the researchers concluded that effective management of
integration affected project management and performance as the connection holds considerable
strength on the success of a project (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017).:
Discussion
The research findings validated the original research hypothesis on the connection
between managing integration and the performance and management of a project. From this, a
strong connection between managing integration and the performance of a project is realized as it
proves that integration is an important aspect in the execution of a successful project
(Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). The study illuminates the vital function of integration
management and constitutes its evident connection with performance and management.
Developing a project program is the most vital integration management component affecting
project success. It permits the commencement of a project and gives its managers a clear and
correct description of power (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). Knowledge integration is the next
vital aspect of a project because it ensures all the participating stakeholders and project members

understand its scope and what needs to be done to ensure its success. Project and staff integration
ensures the organization of all the activities and project personnel, fostering value creation.
Supply chain and changes integration ensures the project is successfully integrated because it
ensures the risks and uncertainties involved in the project are mitigated on time.
Various integration tools and strategies also come into play in achieving project success;
for instance, project managers should develop effective change and risk management as they
impact directly or indirectly the project's resources, schedule, and span. Additionally, the
adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning systems can effectively manage the project's data and
provide information when needed (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). Building an information
model is also an effective strategy for managing the basic project design and digitizing data
throughout the project's lifespan. The strategies and integration management components are
vital when developing a project because they may enhance its performance.
