When people believe the human race shares the same common ancestor as every other
living thing on earth, or an evolutionary worldview, the probability of believing humans
are no more important than a plant or animal is significant. Taking it another step further,
one could easily believe one human being is more important or valuable than another.
The example of this belief is revealed in our study of eugenics. I am astonished to
discover how much of an influence America had on furthering the mindset of justified
forced sterilization of people who were deemed as less fit for an intelligent society. The
impact of the false science even seemed to influence Adolf Hitler. When reading through
the dnsi.org website, it made me wonder how I missed the correlation between eugenics
in America and Germany.
Growing up as a teenager, I did some studying on Hitler and the Nazi’s. At the age of
14, I had the privilege of visiting a mountain top hideaway of Hitler’s known as the
Eagle’s Nest. My fascination was with how a group of people could deem another race of
humans as only worthy of death to the point of extinction. The research for this
discussion board has given me a new perspective of how many prominent Americans,
such as Alexander Graham Bell and Theodore Roosevelt, believed eugenics was a viable
answer to dealing with social problems in society.1 And to imagine many eugenicists
helped certain segments of society justify the act of trying to stop people who were
deemed unfit from being able to reproduce is mind numbing.
If your worldview is based on creationism, you realize the horror of thinking all
human beings are not made in the image of God. Genesis 3:20 clearly states, “The man
called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.”2 Scripture declares
humans to be created “in the image of God,” and Christ Jesus was willing to die for
everyone, yet no one deserved His forgiveness. I am thankful that Christ is willing to
forgive mankind today, even though eugenics is “now carried out by abortion.”3 I work in
a ministry that offers an alternative to abortion and consistently see lives being spared
because someone has convinced a young girl her fetus was made by the Creator of the
Universe, and is precious in His sight! (Word Count 422)
