Abstract
When scenarios are presented, it is important to identify every issue in order to find a solution.
When confidentiality is breached whether inadvertently or advertently it can cause legal
ramifications. It is imperative to study the ACA Code of Ethics to ensure that they are being
followed appropriately to avoid legal, ethical, professional issues, etc. Using the ethical
decision-making model will allow me to fully understand a situation and can help me to fix the
issue. The scenario in A Helpful Receptionist, is presented with the issue of confidentiality
breach when the receptionist disclosed information without the clients consent. This caused the
foundation of trust that was built between the client and the Metropolitan Counseling Center to
be disrupted, as well as legal issues between the client and her spouse. I will be identifying the
problem, reviewing the laws within my state, and finding an ethical solution to this unethical
problem.
