Article 12- Hatreds End: A Christian Proposal to Peacemaking in a New Century
Anita, I thought that you discussion board post on forgiveness was excellent and thought
provoking. I felt that the post was informative and intellectual. It demonstrated an excellent job
of describing what the Bible says in regards to hate especially with one another. As Christians we
are not to hate, but rather we are to have forgiveness and reconciliation towards our enemies. The
key to remember is that we would not be able to complete this on our own, but only through
Jesus Christ. “Jesus healed our broken hearts through reconciling us to the heavenly father, but
he also commissions us to the ministry of reconciliation” (Dawson, n.d., p.229).
I felt that you did a good job outlining the strengths of the author, and his vast biblical reference
when touching on the healing processes. Another point which I read that Dawson made was;
“When we study human conflict, we see that Satan’s method of getting one group to abuse
another is rooted in the hardheaded collision of self-righteous people within each group”
(Dawson, n.d., p.235). Another excellent aspect you pointed out was on the issue of healing. You
mentioned that healing may take time, but healing can happen if one is ready to let go of the
pain. “Reconciliation takes place when you and I begin to enjoy intimate fellowship with our
previous enemies, people who have tempted use to bitterness by hurting us,” (Helmick &
Petersen, 2001, p. 229). You had mentioned that you yourself struggle with feelings of hate and
anger. I pray that through this course God has opened your eyes to foundational biblical
principles to begin the healing process in your own life. Thank you for your excellent posting to
the week’s assignment.
