Article Critique
The two articles selected are “The Privitization of Prisons and its Impact on
Transperency and Accountability in Relation to Maladministration” by Headly and
Garcia-Zamora and “An Assesment of the Risks and Benefits of Prison Privitization” by
Rizzo and Hayes. In addition to discussing the advantages of jail privitizations that were
mentioned, this paper will attempt to explain each article and go over the advantages
and disadvantages of each article and will also describea Christian viewpoint on prison
privitatzion and recommended courses of action. In can be concluded that while prison
privatization has certain advantages in terms of achieving correctional goals, these
advantages do not outweigh the numerous drawbacks, including the fact that inmates
are receiving poor treatments, which is inconsistent with Christian standards and
beliefs.
Article 1-Background
The first article, “An Assessment of the Risks and Benefits of Prison
Privatization” analyzes the advantages and disadvatages of privatizing prisons. Since
the 1980’s, the number of private prisons in the US has increased significally. This has
several advantages, including lower costs and more effective administrative operations.
There is insufficiant data to definitely assert that privatization of prisons is the optimal
solution for American jail systems. More caution has to be used when looking into and
studying federal prisons and facilities. Aside from that, the article examines and weighs
the advantages and disadvantages of various aspects of staffing, correctional policy,
public safety, litigation procedures, and overpayments.

Article 1 –Critique of Strengths and Weaknesses of the Article
Strengths
The article’s strength lies in its evidence-based status, as the government
requested that a paper outlining the advantages and disadvantages of privatization be
prepared. The article covered both sides of the privitization debate and left readersfree
to chose, based only on their own opinions, which strategy they believe is superior.
When it came to taking sides between the public and private prison systems, it
performed a decent job of remaining impartial. The essay did a fantastic job of outlining
the advantages of prison privatization and how it can benefit inmates as well as society.
Weaknesses
The article’s weaknesses are that the author did not obtain samples from the
society and was unable to provide the full methodology that she used to research the
data.
Article 2 – Background
The second article, “The Privatization of Prisons and its Impact on Transperancy
and Accountability in Relation to Maladministration”, dicusses the implementation of
government services related to prison privitization in American prisons, with the goal of
improving service and quality efficiency. Unfortunately, there have been some losses in
accountability and trasnperancy within the prisons during this implementation process,
which increases the likelihood that unfavorable side effects will occur. In order to
determine whether private prisons were more vulnerable to maladministration than

public prisons, frameworks for further research that supports the fight against
maladministration are discussed. According to the article, incompetent managemnet
practices can result from prison’s lack of accountability and transparency.
Article 2 – Critique of Strengths and Weaknesses of the Article
Strengths
This article’s greatest strength is how well the authors have described the
dangers associated with the US private prison system and convinced the readers that
prison privitization ought to be curtailed or outright stopped. The authors purposefully
provided clear explinations of the secondary study content and literature material so that
the points made can be supportive.
Weaknesses
The articles weakness was the lack of a methodology section and the little
utilization use of statistical figures. In my opinion, I think the authors should give better
illustrations so the reader can understand better.
Summary of Articles
The suggested solution in both articles is that prison privatization in the US
benefits both the general public and inmates in numerous ways. It is crucial to
remember that just because there are some advantages does not imply that privatizing
pprisons is the best course of action or that it ought to be adopted in the US. Given that
there are more risk factors then benefits, it is abundtly evident from literature that
privatizing prisons can have a negative impact on both the jail population and the prison
system. Privatization of prisons should be avoided since it may lead to various problems

like poor management and misadministration of the prisons. Some States, like New
Hampshire are contemplating the implementation of a privitizaton process for prisons
due to financial difficulties (Rizzo & Hayes, 2012). The article by Garcia-Zamor and
Headly focuses on how instead of doing things that will further harm prisoners,
correctioanal facilities should be concentrating more on how to creatively create
correctional aspects in prisons that will adequately change prisoners behavior for good
(Garcia-Zamor & Headly,2014).
Conclusion: Personal Reflection, Position, and Christian Worldview
The way private prisons are currently run does not seem to align with Christian
values. According to the Christian worldview, people should love one another, accept
one another for who they are and refrain from passing judgement on one another
because God alone is capable of doing such things. Christians believe that human
beings have no right to decide who lives and who dies, particularly in a system of
corrections. Nowadays, it is hard for prisoners in private prisons to feel loved, accepted,
and care for as human beings. They are instead perceived as impersonal objects or
numbers. The system and its current state might be fixed n a few different way. The
Bible commands us to assist in at least with them recovering and atoning for their
trasngressions. Matthew 25:36 says that Jesus said “ I was in prison and you came to
visit me, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of
mine, you did for me.” If wer are to treat others the way Jesus treats people, we must
start with treating the least of these, those in prison, like Jesus.
