Source of Activity
On April 4th, 2017 at approximately 0630 hours, I responded to a dispatch call to 227 East
Memorial Drive, Normal, Virginia, 12345 for a victim who was found Dead on Arrival.
Observations
On arriving at 227 East Memorial Drive, I knocked on the front door and received no response.
Afterward, I proceeded to gain entry from the sliding patio door which was already unlocked.
Upon entering I found the victim Natalie Lynn Turner (DOB 03/17/199; SSN 434-71-2017)
DOA (Dead on arrival). She was sprawled out over the couch with her mouth and eyes open. The
victim was dressed in a white t-shirt with red writing “My Sport” on it and yellow and white
pants with the SpongeBob cartoon character printed all over it. The victim's IBM ThinkPad along
with a pill bottle with pills scattered all over the coffee table was found as well. A suicide note
was left on the victim’s ThinkPad. The victim’s friend Chelsea Ann Howser who made the 911
call was sitting in the kitchen.
Arrest
No arrest has been made at this time.
Statements
Chelsea Ann Howser (DOB 02/07/1195; SSN 490-22-2999) the victim’s friend was questioned at
the scene. Chelsey was asked if she resided in the same residence as the victim and she stated she
had moved out a few weeks ago to 319 Daughtery Road in Normal. She spoke to the victim
previously the night before planning their routine morning run. Ms. Howser stated it was unusual
2
that Ms. Turner was not outside and ready for their run when she arrived. She entered the home
to check on the victim when she found her deceased. She shared that the victim was employed as
a Barista at the Espresso Café. Additionally, Ms. Howser stated the victim has recently
terminated her relationship with her boyfriend Zack Cain. She stated Mr. Cain would raise his
hand to scare the victim but never followed through with his actions.
Booking
No one has been booked at this time.
Evidence
At the scene, the victim’s IBM Thinkpad (Serial Number 05A5439) was bagged as evidence. The
pills and the container were also bagged from the victim’s residence. At Mr. Cain’s residence a
red Kate Spade handbag was recovered which had the victim's ID card and a business card from
a psychologist bagged as evidence. Outside on the step, a brown leather wallet, which had an ID
for Zachary Allen Cain and his social security card was also found. Lastly, a pair of black gloves
which were found on the kitchen table was bagged as well.
Additional
Chelsea Howser provided Mr. Cain's place of employment, Best Auto Parts located at 123 Main
Street, Normal, Virginia, 12345. I left the victim's home and headed to Best Auto Parts where I
spoke with John Whatley, the night manager (DOB 04/03/1987). He was able to describe Mr.
Cain. He is said to be between 5’8 and 5’11 in height, approximately weighing 180-200 pounds,
muscular body structure, and is clean cut, similar to the military haircut. He has red hair, with an
3
anchor tattoo on his upper right arm with freckles. Mr. Whatley explained Mr. Cain was half an
hour late to his assigned shift which began at noon and also noted he was acting very distracted
all week which was out of the norm. After taking his statement, I proceeded to the suspect's
home located at 410 Brown Street, Apartment #812, Normal, Virginia, 12345. I was greeted by
Zachary Cain (DOB 01/02/1995) who allowed me to search his apartment. After the search, a
pair of black leather gloves were found on the table, a red Kate Spade purse containing the
victim's ID and a business card from a psychologist were recovered and bagged as evidence. Mr.
Cain hastily left in the middle of being questioned stating he had to leave for work and ran out of
the apartment. He left in a 2016 Nissan Sentra heading south on the interstate.
