Introduction
In this assignment, I will share my spiritual journey and the call from the Lord to serve as
a chaplain. Throughout my life, I have experienced various moments that have shaped my faith
and led me to this ministry. Through this assignment, I aim to convey the depth of my calling and
the significant events that have affirmed it.
Spiritual Journey
My spiritual journey began in a Christian home, where I was blessed to have parents
involved in full-time ministry. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the impact of faith in their lives
and the lives of others. This early exposure to Christianity laid a solid foundation for my faith.
I attended a youth camp in middle school that became a pivotal moment in my spiritual journey. I
accepted Jesus as my Savior there, beginning a personal relationship with Him. From that point
forward, my faith grew, and I sought to deepen my understanding of God and His Word.
Ministry Experience
As I continued to grow in my faith, I felt compelled to serve the Lord in various ministry
capacities. In college, I joined a ministry called Campus Crusade for Christ. Through this
experience, I learned about ministry and leadership and discovered the importance of building
relationships and meeting people where they are in their spiritual journeys. After college, I faced
a significant transition when I moved to the United States. Despite the challenges, I trusted God
and sought opportunities to continue serving Him.
I became involved in different churches and joined a life group, where I found
community and continued growth in my spiritual life. During this time, I also had the privilege of
starting a youth ministry for Arabic-speaking individuals, inspired by my father's establishment
2
of an Arabic ministry. Being a leader and teacher in this ministry deepened my relationship with
God and allowed me to witness His Word's transformative power in others' lives.
Life Event Affirming the Call to Chaplaincy
Since graduating from college, I have wrestled with whether to pursue a regular job or
commit to full-time ministry. Upon moving to the USA, I began searching for employment
opportunities while serving in various capacities at my church. I took on different jobs, but deep
down; I sensed that they were temporary and God had different plans for me. During this time, I
enrolled in a Bible college and completed a bachelor's degree in theology. Although I couldn't
finish my Master of Divinity degree at that time due to unforeseen circumstances, the desire to
complete it never left me.
Years later, I felt a strong prompting from God to return and complete my master’s degree
in divinity. However, I still needed more clarity about my direction with this degree. I earnestly
sought God's guidance, praying for His will to be revealed to me. During this period, a chaplain
spoke at our church, sharing his ministry as a healthcare chaplain. His stories and experiences
captivated me, and a deep interest in healthcare chaplaincy ignited within me. Coincidentally,
around the same time, a dear friend's father became gravely ill, and she was concerned about his
soul. She wanted a chaplain to talk to her father and provide spiritual support. This situation
deeply impacted me, highlighting the significance of healthcare chaplaincy in times of
vulnerability and the need for spiritual guidance. At that moment, I was strongly convinced that
God was directing me toward this ministry.
This experience served as a resounding answer to my prayers, confirming my calling to
full-time ministry and shedding light on the importance of serving as a healthcare chaplain. It
became clear that this ministry allows me to bring the light of God's love and spiritual care to
3
individuals in their most vulnerable moments. Unlike the traditional ministry setting, where
people come to a church seeking support, healthcare chaplaincy allows them to go to people
where they are, particularly in hospitals.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this life event solidified my call to chaplaincy and gave me a clear
direction for my ministry path. It affirmed that full-time ministry, specifically in the healthcare
setting, is where I am called to serve. I am eager to pursue my Master of Divinity degree again,
equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to fulfill this calling. I am grateful for the clarity
and assurance God has given me, and I am committed to answering this call with wholehearted
dedication and compassion.
