What does it look like to contend for and pass on the faith?
In our world of tons of information, we lack wisdom. Part of the church's role is that we can
bring wisdom that represents the generations before us and impacts the generations to come.
When we are approached with issues, we need to discover and ask what the Bible would say
about this. The things of this world promise us that it will fulfill, but truly only life with God
will. In this day and age, you can be right and know everything, but unless it is evident that you
are sowing compassion and truly care about the questions they are asking, they will shut you
down. The Bible has something to offer on every question of this age. It is important to critically
think about the questions being raised.
Let’s look at the acronym – THINQ. The way we can think well as Christians is to start with T -
theology. Are you going to God’s Word as the source, and what does He have to say about it? We
also need to understand the H- history of ideas. We must stay I – inquisitive about things and
about scripture. Because Shafer stayed curious, he was able to help others understand issues
better and address questions about the case of Christianity. N stands for nuance. We must be
compassionate when discussing issues, this represents the heart of God. As Christians, we should
ask better Q – questions. Jesus communicated in questions, asking people things so that they
could figure them out on their own, guiding them.
