There are many wonderful properties of water. Water has several anomalies, one of which
is its high specific heat that makes it a good temperature buffer. The specific heat of water is
1.00cal/g.°C (Armstrong, 2015). This is the measurement of the amount of heat required to
increase the temp of 1 g of water by 1°C (Armstrong, 2015). It requires more energy to heat
water than it does to heat most substances. For example, it takes approximately ten times the
energy to heat 1g of water than it does to heat 1g of iron (Sarfati, 1997). Not only does it take a
lot of energy to increase the temperature of water, it also requires a lot of energy to be lost to
decrease the temperature of water (Sarfati, 1997). Water helps to maintain and regulate the
earth’s temperature. The bodies of water on earth absorb heat during the day to help keep the
earth cool and then release the heat at night to help keep the earth warm (Institute for Creation
Research, 2019). If water did not do this the earth would not be able to last. Another way this
helps the earth is because land and water heat at different rates which causes winds to generate
which keeps the air around us fresh (Sarfati, 1997). This wonderful property of water works to
sustain the earth and God’s work. “The angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as
crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the lamb” (Revelation 22:1, ESV). God uses
water to maintain the earth and the life that is on it as well.
