The ultimate causes of pain in this life is emotional pain and physical pain. The
ultimate cause of pain is loss of something or someone close to your heart or a
physical injury of some sort. In life many of us has experienced pain from the loss
of a loved one, the end of a relationship, even the loss of a pet or car. We have
also experienced pain from a broken leg or arm, a surgical procedure or even a
headache. According to Hislop, “ Life is filled with pain” and “Pain is part of life”.
I don’t believe any of us would know what joy or happiness was if we didn’t
experience pain. Hislop also states, “ Pain is God’s way of preserving life”.
2 Corinthians 12:10 states “ That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses,
in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I
am strong.” I believe God’s solution is for us to get closer to, and depend on him
to ease our pain.
We can point women towards this solution by first showing empathy, compassion,
understanding and support. Hislop states that, “ For the believer in Christ, the
understanding that human suffering brings opportunity to become more like
Christ”. I believe that women who already have a relationship with God will be
drawn closer to him if we pray together, read scripture and provide a system of
support. In order to support women who are unbelievers, we still will show
empathy, compassion, understanding and support. Some women may not be
interested in prayer, so I believe that I would first listen and create an atmosphere
of trust.
