The Meditech Surgical Case Study
What are the meditech’s problems in introducing new products? In manufacturing
all products?
Even though innovations produced by Meditech “have been well-accepted by the
marketplace,” the company faced difficulties with supply (Simchi-Levi et al., 1999, p. 22).
Meditech’s core customers are hospital material managers who prioritize timely delivery of the
ordered goods over their innovativeness. From this, it could be inferred that the managerial
personnel of Meditech failed to predict the dynamics of demand for their new products correctly.
Besides, the clients who were afraid of the possible delays started to increase the number of
ordered items in the hope of getting at least part of them on time (Simchi-Levi et al., 1999). This
situation is known as panic ordering, and it further degraded the quality of Meditech’s service.
