Abstract
The case study delves into the demise of Blockbuster and contrasts its strategic approach
with that of Netflix and Redbox. Blockbuster's success during its prime was attributed to its
effective supply chain management, encompassing inventory management, convenience,
branding, loyalty programs, technology integration, marketing, and consistent customer
experience. Despite its global presence and brand trust, Blockbuster faced challenges due to its
inability to adapt swiftly to changing market dynamics and technological advancements. In
contrast, Netflix and Redbox capitalized on convenience, competitive pricing, technology
adoption, and adaptability, surpassing Blockbuster's strategic fit. By pioneering online streaming
and embracing self-service kiosks, Netflix and Redbox achieved operational excellence and
competitive advantage, ultimately outperforming Blockbuster in the evolving entertainment
landscape. The study underscores the importance of strategic alignment, adaptability, and
technological innovation in sustaining competitiveness in dynamic markets.
