There are a number of ethical principles and values that must be implemented by
leadership as it relates to the business world. These principles and values are imperative as it
relates to implementation, mainly due to the fact that it sets forth the overall standards and rules
that govern the organization. The aforementioned is critical in order to ensure a successful
organizational strategy (Wishloff, 2015). Business ethics, or corporate ethics, is the examination,
from a moral standpoint, of both the private and public issues that pertain to judgment which is
both ethical and honest (Albescu, 2015).
When ethical principles are not properly implemented, an organization has the potential
to fall into misrepresentation, or a lack of integrity (Albescu, 2015). Managers who operate with
a great deal of ethical principles tend to be proponents of ethical compliance, strictly adhere to a
corporate code of ethics, and tend operate within and uphold corporate values (Thompson, 2020).
All things remaining constant, an organization’s success will always be greatly reliant upon its
overall moral compass. It is worth noting that a great deal of emphasis is always placed on profit
increase as it relates to the business world; when the aforementioned is the focal point, it can
often lead to unethical behavior.
In simple terms, ethics exists and are important because they serve as the divider between
right and wrong, good and evil. It is imperative that an organization implements an effective
ethical strategy. This is critical because it lays the foundation for a moral code of conduct;
additionally, it ensures that there is honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness as it relates to business
dealings amongst, suppliers, consumers, and shareholders (Wishloff, 2015). When there is a lack
of guiding ethical principles, the competitive advantage ceases to exist. This is often due to a
lack of trust and loyalty as it relates to all parties involved (Wishloff, 2015). It is worth noting
that ethical principles and practices have the potential to influence how an organization is

perceived, including its overall image. Due to the aforementioned, an organization must establish
an effective ethical strategy.
When an organization establishes an effective ethical strategy, it builds a loyal customer-
base, and also establishes itself as a business partner that is trustworthy (Albescu, 2015). The
overall success of an organization is linked to its ethical base. Positive ethical standards have the
potential to aid in delivering an increased competitive advantage (Albescu, 2015).
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and
acceptable and perfect” (English Standard Version). In this verse, we witness Paul urging
Christians to cease living like the world, in an effort to place a greater focus and emphasis on
God’s ultimate plan for their lives. Additionally, this verse encourages Christians to avoid
seeking earthly pleasure and gain, in an effort to better understand all that God has planned for
the lives of His children. Ultimately, the goal is to become living sacrifices who are sold out to
the purposes of God. When the minds of Christians are too carnal, it often leads to unethical and
ungodly behavior. As Believers, the mandate is to take the straight and narrow path, which is
often way less traveled. It is key that one abandons the ways of the world, and instead, lives as
according to the will of God.
In theory, the ethical strategy of an organization, in conjunction with the Christian faith,
are connected in that both are based on taking a less popular path, in an effort to achieve a
greater goal. That goal could of course be increased profitability, or eternal life. In the business
world, it is imperative to create a code of ethics (Albescu, 2015). The aforementioned is critical
because it will set the tone for how the organization is conducted. Additionally, there is a certain

degree of disparity that could be created due to the fact that integrity and honesty are not always
the most profitable or easiest ways to conduct business (Wishloff, 2015).
Christians must be willing to take a stand against the wickedness within this world. In
taking a stand, that often means standing alone. The truth of the Word, however, reveals that God
never leaves nor forsakes His children. He can be trusted to bring His children into a place of
transformation as they embrace His will for their lives. The strategy of ethics, or doing the right
thing, every time, while simple, still requires effort and can be difficult to consistently
implement. Influences from the world, as well as the pressures from everyday life, point to the
fact that following Christ must be a daily choice; additionally, that choice requires a renewed
mind, which leads to a transformed life. Transformation is an internal work. It is imperative that
Believers represent Christ not just in the workplace, but in every aspect of their lives; leading
others to Him is always the principle thing.
