Aflac is an insurance company that provides financial protection to policyholders and customers
in the United States and Japan. Aflac is known for ensuring that the customer comes first,
gaining the trust of millions of people who rely on them to pay claims fairly and promptly when
they need it most. Aflac's voluntary insurance policies provide additional financial protection,
enabling policyholders to focus on recovery rather than financial stress. The company's diverse
group of employees contributes to its overall success, and it continues to be a top provider of
ancillary insurance in the United States and medical and cancer insurance in Japan (Aflac inc.,
2022).
Aflac uses its services and products to enhance the total compensation for their employees.
According to Noe et al, (2023), total rewards represent an employee’s compensation, benefits,
and other offerings from an employer. Total compensation encompasses both cash compensation
and benefits. In today’s workforce, employees expect more than just a paycheck; they seek an
employment experience aligned with their professional and personal priorities. Aflac enhances
the total compensation for its employees by offering the same products and services they provide
to their customers. This approach ensures that employees benefit from the company's offers at
little to no cost. Some benefits that Aflac offers their employees include employer paid life
insurance, employer paid cancer policy, and employer paid accident protection insurance (Aflac
Inc., 2022). Organizations must evolve their total rewards strategies to meet the changing
expectations, considering competitive salaries, benefits, work-life balance, career development
opportunities, and well-being programs. These strategies are key for an organization to attract,
retain, and engage talent (Noe, 2023).
Some of Aflac’s company strengths include brand recognition, focus on customer service,
leading market position in Japan, and consistent long term growth strategies. Aflac is well-

known for its effective marketing campaigns, including the iconic Aflac Duck. According to
Kenney and Cone, (2002), The Aflac Childhood Cancer Campaign was created to support Aflac’s
reputation and brand, with more than two decades of commitment to pediatric cancer research
and treatment. Aflac created a robotic companion that provides comfort and support to children
coping with cancer or sickle cell disease. The duck helps children express their emotions and
normalizes medical procedures. Aflac has continued to foster a culture that values diversity, and
this commitment is reflected in both the U.S. workforce and leadership (M2 Presswire, 2023).
Some potential weaknesses could include facing competition from other insurance companies
with stronger brand equity and reliance on independent agents for distribution.
Aflac motivates its workforce and contributes to positive outcomes for both employees and the
company by offering both traditional and non-traditional rewards to their employees. Traditional
rewards encompass various elements, including compensation, benefits, and recognition
programs. According to Place (2023), Aflac prioritizes nearly 15,000 employee’s well-being,
mental health and work-life balance. They ensure that employees have the time to relax and the
benefits to support them. Aflac offers both remote and office mental health counselors while
providing immediate assistance when needed. Beyond benefits, the company ensures to address
workplace burnout and the safety of their employees (Place, 2023). In addition to traditional
benefits, Aflac offers non-traditional perks that acknowledge the evolving needs of contemporary
workers. These include health insurance, flexible work schedules, and opportunities for career
advancement. Aflac aims to enhance employees' experiences at work by providing a
comprehensive rewards package that goes beyond the conventional offering which places great
importance on aligning its compensation benefits with its corporate values.

Aflac's commitment to growing the business is unwavering. According to PR Newswire, (2002),
Aflac prioritizes employees, policyholders, and investors through sound governance practices.
Aflac has been listed as one of the world’s most admired companies for several years. The Aflac
career success center was created due to many employees’ thinking that they had no career
advancement opportunities within the organization. Employees meet with experts to discuss their
career goals and challenges that they are currently facing with meeting their goal. The company’s
goal is to get the employee to the position that they will prosper in (White, 2019).
Aflac Incorporated strives to create a work environment that aligns with its organizational
objectives and values. The company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics emphasizes key
principles such as Teamwork, Respect, Fairness, Honesty, Integrity, and Responsibility. These
values guide employees, officers, and directors in their everyday business conduct. Aflac's
commitment extends beyond legal requirements; it emphasizes ethical and lawful behavior. The
Code serves as a primary guide for all business activities, ensuring that decisions align with the
company's reputation for integrity. Aflac's commitment to these values contributes to a diverse
workforce where employees can perform at their best (Aflac Incorporated, 2020).
According to Noe et al, (2023), employee benefits play a crucial role in attracting, retaining, and
engaging top talent within organizations. As the job market stabilizes and employers seek to
balance costs with talent retention, it's essential to focus on creating consistent, adequate, and
equitable benefit programs. Aflac appears to be doing exceptional work regarding ensuring that
their employees have the benefits and programs needed to be successful in their work and
personal life. I would recommend that Aflac continue to expand the mental health services
offered to employees to avoid or prevent employment burnout.

"For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall
reward every man according to his works." (King James Bible, 1769/2019, Matthew 16:27) This
verse is a reminder that God rewards those who serve Him faithfully, sow righteousness, and
work diligently. As an organization supporting missions, understanding these principles can help
align your mission and values with biblical truths.
