Ethical Application: Hiring Manager Assignment
“Without guidance a people will fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance
(Christan Standard Bible, Proverbs 11:14).” This Bible verse speaks volumes when it comes to
representation in organization because it shows that no matter the level that you are in an
organization, counselors, and our mentors will always be needed. When representing an
organization, how people perceive you will be the way they feel your organization is operating.3
The staffing professional is serving as an agent of the organization and is bound by their duty to
represent the organization first and foremost (Judge and Kammeyer-Mueller, 2022). Hiring
decisions3directly impact the company’s, success, culture, and overall operations. Making sure
that the recruitment process aligns with the organizations goes value and strategic route helps to
build a strong workforce with positive impact to productivity and long-term growth. Always
avoid putting your interest above the organization.
Importance of Representation
Many employers have publicly stated their commitment to diversity, the public, which
include potential employees, are expecting to see real results in the workplace (Woods &
Tharakan, 2021). The importance of representing the organizations interest3is to make sure that
you hire quality and competent employees, the company is following policies and procedures, as
well as always being aware of your companies, organizational ethical climate and culture. Hiring
the right talent insurance that the employees have the skills, experience, and the mindset to
perform their job roles effectively. “As a leader, you should look for mechanisms that combat
bias among you and your teams (Stross,2021)”. Making sure to follow the law, and following
staffing policies and procedures helps protect the organization from potential lawsuits,
discrimination claims or ethical violations. Insufficient hiring decisions can lead to high turnover
3
rates, lower retention rates, increased training cost, and low productivity. Hiring the right person,
the first time is imperative a lot of money is spent when running background checks and training
a new employee when the wrong person is hired several times this can impact the company
financially. If employees who align with the company’s values mission is hired the first time it is
easier to train them, work with them and help them stay interested in engaged in the
organization.
Not Representing the Organization
Not representing the organization interest can lead to the downfall or many lawsuits in a
company. The wrong candidate can lead to decrease productivity, unsatisfactory job
performance, and increase supervision requirements, which may take away from other
employees or other needed tasks. If the proper hiring protocols are not followed, this can result in
discrimination lawsuits against the company, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
complaints or violation of labor laws in which the company could be found at fault and could’ve
caused them more money and resources. An employee with low morale can lower team unit
cohesion, can lower the morale of other people in the company, and can lead to disconnection
among existing employees. Constantly hiring the wrong person can damage the company’s
reputation, resulting in less quality candidates applying in the future. This could also result in
more qualified employees leaving for better companies. If new hires don’t fit in and consistent
training or retraining is not helping this could be a waste of resources as well as company time
because now those employees need to be replaced very quickly.
Conclusion
“You will find that comparing candidates to a prepared standard makes hiring much
better and much harder and once you find someone who meets the standard, you’ll want to make
4
an offer to the person even if someone better might come along (Horstman, 2020).” Representing
the organizations interest in staffing insures continued sustainable growth, long-term success,
and strong workplace culture.3Retention rates will increase, and quality employees will continue
to flock toward the organization which will result in continued career development for
employees in all areas and all levels. Working for an employer when the employee feels valued
will spark high employee job referrals as well.
