1. Detail the overall research design in the Ohio Lottery case (See Exhibit OL1). What
are the advantages and disadvantages of this design?
This case study research design was a good example of qualitative research and the
design served the purpose that was sought. Taking into consideration things like the
budget, audience, ethical considerations, and other factors, the design of this research
project had to be shaped a certain way. The idea behind this design was to find a way to
maintain the quantitative qualities with the different variables being studied in order to
come up with statistical data that could be analyzed. The types of research in this
qualitative design was followed up with quantitative or measurable results. The
advantages of this type of quantitative survey was that the qualitative study only
incorporated 25 people while the quantitative study had a much larger group of people to
work with. For this reason, it was an advantage that this design could confirm or deny
the results of the qualitative study. The disadvantage with this design was that it is one of
the most difficult and detailed design that usually costs a lot and is saved for larger
experiments normally.
