CASE STUDY: OPEN DOORS
How did ODO operationalize the definition of an adult with a disability? What arguments
could you make that the definition was too inclusive or too narrow?
The Open Doors Organization (ODO) founded in 200, is committed to ensuring that all
persons with disabilities have the same consumer opportunities as those without disabilities.
ODO gives business the information and tools it needs to succeed in the disability market
(Schindler, 2022).
According to ODO, we wanted the disability to be permanent, and we wanted to cover
the full range of physically limiting disabilities. Shares Turk, but we did not want to include
those with mental and or emotional disorders. As the respondents were screened over the phone
consisting of just over five hundred interviews. ODO restricted the definition of an adult with
disability in terms of sampling. ODO saw the diseases not only as lifelong illness but also as one
that involved a greater variety of limiting causes however choosing to exclude those of
psychiatric and emotional conditions. Disabilities are lifelong disorders with physical restrictions
in place and are also classified as mental and emotional conditions as well.
Achieving their inclusive goal requires special considerations for patients with disabilities
who need accommodations to access even basic services, such as physical examinations and
weight measurement, or to communicate effectively with physicians. In 2016 approximately
sixty-one million Americans reported having a disability. Despite broad civil rights protections,
which encompass health care, many people with disability experience health care disparities, as
documented in federal reports, including healthy people and numerous studies. Research
suggests that failures to receive accommodations contribute to inequitable care for people with
disability (Iezzoni, Rao, Ressalam, 2022).

Nonetheless, it is not a reasonable statement to claim that someone who lacks such
physical activities is and or could be disabled when denying or declining to acknowledge
someone whose standard of life is restricted, mentally, physically and said to disabled at the
same time. With such a great portion of the population being classified under disabilities with a
wider coverage, ODO has chosen to narrow down even more of an opportunity to help others.
Analyze the research design’s various components. Identify any potential problems and
explain the ramifications of these design issues. Identify the potential strengths of the
design.
ODO appeared to have wanted to buy in from those organization that already address
disability issues and those that could benefit from knowing the study’s findings, so it recruited
representatives to influence the questionnaire design. Through a series of conference calls in the
beginning we had far too many questions. The survey would have been far too long, and our
focus was too broad. A group discussion guide or a discussion of issues and problems can be
related to focus groups (Schindler, 2022).
Collaborative research and research methods takes a lot of a firsthand on deck needs and
time managements in order to highlight any potential problems that could be faced. Additionally
there in turn is presented a need for group efforts to diagnose and digest each research step (s)
that were focused on. Ramifications that have been outlined in our textbook are correlated to the
unsolicited research proposal. The Unsolicited proposal has the advantage of not competing
against others but the disadvantage of having to speculate on the ramifications of a management
dilemma facing the firm’s management. The researcher who writes the unsolicited proposal must
decide to whom the document should be sent (Schindler, 2022). If the management levels are

connected and are beneficial to the research methods this can be an advantage to the researcher.
Program manager to program manager will have the knowledge-based background of the
successes of research and eliminate manager dilemma more likely than if an entry level member
was conducting the research to a managerial level.
What is a hybrid (dual mobility) methodology? What are the pros and cons of the hybrid
methodology used in this study?
Two variables, methods, or means are used by the hybrid (dual modality) approach to
reach data revealed conclusions to achieve results. The definition of hybrid dual modality is as it
sounds, that two systems are being used as one. This method has pros and cons to the
information. There is room for blurred lines in between the two modalities used. Pros are
included that more data can be received and evaluated for a study. Cons including the need to
source further for a study to have the data received, which means more funds needed in order to
pay for additional sources/ companies and or beings. The dual-modality approach was used in
ODO during the process of evaluating disabled people's travel needs through the internet and via
telephone. In order to get a healthy, or a representative sample, the dual-modality approach was
used.
Laura Light, the program manager testified to this when she elaborated on the dual-
modality approach by saying: In order to obtain a representative study, it was necessary to use
both. In significance of the dual-modality approach, but also in an illustrated need for balance.
The techniques utilized aided in caution while weighing the data during the research process.
While, in agreement to Harris’ statement of people with disabilities are not all reachable by
phone or online; the nature of their disability will sometimes exclude one method or another and
5
CASE STUDY: OPEN DOORS
the importance to use both methods in order to achieve a representative sample (Schindler,
2022). If one is attempting to contact someone with a blindness or hearing disability one or the
other technique may not be an option for them, and their studies will have been missed. Though
this study was conducted before tablets and the on-demand translators’ availabilities typically
these services are a third-party service that would in turn cost ODO more money.
Francie Turk had no prior experience with researching Americans with disabilities. Assume
you have similar background; what would you have done in the exploratory phase of this
project to become familiar with the frustrations and hurdles that adults with disabilities
face when traveling? Compare your research process with that ODO did. What could ODO
have gained from incorporating methods?
If I were in the same scenario and had no previous background and knowledge to the
needs of research of disabilities and travel for those with ADA needs I could see it to be
beneficial to get acquainted with all the aspects that restrict people with disabilities via creditable
research studies. This research of mine would need to be done of a course of time in order to
have the most success and understanding as opposed to reading one article and assuming I would
in fact know everything a disabled person goes through. The research would be accompanied by
the exploratory stages of collecting information regarding physical, emotional, and mental
strengths, interests and needs of those with disabilities.
Though ODO felt not all categories were of importance, I again would personally feel
that would provide more information for greater outcome of a business for those who need my
services. Keeping data completely restrictive and eliminating the psychological piece leaves
room for those to now and want to open and explore the areas of which they are seeking travels

and lodging information and services. It is imperative to reflect people's actual symptom
experiences to develop effective symptom management strategies.
Typically, when one goes on travel and lodging events this is for personal pleasure and
the psychological pieces to the puzzle are significantly impacted on further data. In addition,
speaking to the organizations who manage or offer programs routinely utilized by the disabled
community would provide more impact and results to the research process.
ODO approach was effective in some sorts however it was also mechanical and lacked
the personal touches of data research to make one feel valued. ODO technique having been more
focused on how to best assist would encourage the researchers to learn more about the
disabilities and categories impacted themselves. Similar to any subject matter one might not have
all the information on, reaching out to those who have lived and breathed it or work within the
subject daily are great resources and further impacted by the data.
Brainstorm lists of potential hotel, restaurant, and rental car accommodations to be
evaluated for adults with disabilities and create your own paired- comparison question.
During a phone interview, how quickly could you cover this question? What are the
advantages and disadvantages to using the measurement scale in the phone survey in
comparison to using it in the online survey?
Ensuring quality access and equal access to hotel elevators, rooms and rental vehicles
allowing for wheelchairs access if needed. Asking respectfully, have you been diagnosed or are
you under evaluation for disability needs and services? If yes, how can I help? Additionally, If
the answer is yes, sampling being a safe place for disability disclosure and being useful with
your knowledge of accommodations and requests. This would be at the top of the medical history

questionnaire on my own personal form and would leave room for further joining questions as
needed. For formality on dining and restaurants alike are dining environment plays a significant
role in creating consumers’ experiences. Environmental psychologists reveal that the
environment can influence people’s behaviors and establish the context in which these behaviors
take place. Dining environment facilitates the interaction between people (i.e., consumers and
service providers) and the physical offerings. More importantly, dining environment mediates
customers’ emotional (e.g., pleasure) and conative (e.g., satisfaction, loyalty) responses to
services during their consumption experiences (Yuan, Bauman, Ferns, Ebrahimzadeh, & Alshiha,
2022).
If one has any limitations when it comes to travel there are numerous possibilities of how
best assistance can come in hand for the individual. An advantage to having this questionnaire on
a phone survey would provide with a personal experience and friendly person to speak your
needs too and being able to feel if one is hesitant to inform you of accommodations and how you
might respond and reword the question to gather further information. A disadvantage to this is if
someone does not feel comfortable to disclose information with the person over the phone.
Online surveys are often less personal and can benefit in the disadvantage of the phone
questionnaire. However, in the turn the online survey can be insensitive to the needs of one who
might need to further explain themselves and having the opportunity to do so on the phone would
provide more stability, understanding and opportunity for the individual.
What are the management, research, and investigative questions driving the next Adults
with disabilities: Travel and Hospitalist Study?

CASE STUDY: OPEN DOORS
Research as an entirety is based on the hospitality and travel industry per the previous
research process. Though this case study is 23 years old – today the information could be
different and be more supportive to those individuals of the baby boom which could fall into the
senior and disabilities category. Management, research and investigative research remains the
same with the impacts of technology, accessing the effectiveness of different approaches,
leadership, organizational cultures and more. While the practice of investigative interviewing has
traditionally been grounded in customary knowledge, decades of research have now enhanced
our understanding of the limits of these practices and led to the development of novel,
theoretically informed approaches. The maturity of any science is best evidenced in the conduct
of systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and the investigative interviewing research literature
has reached just such a period in its development (Meissner, 2021).
In Conclusion, the effectiveness of studies and research are important and impactive to
workplaces, research and productivity.
