Part 1 As an employee or a manager in either the legal office or the engineering
department, how would you have prevented this incident?
Legal issues in an organization have a critical contribution towards the improved
performance as well as allowing the organization in question to overcome some of the problems
that are likely to occur in the general market (Van Aken & Berends, 2018). Having measures that
may lead towards the effective prevention of a possible issue from happening is one of the
considerations in an organization that leads towards the practical improvement of performance
and at the same time allow the stakeholders to ensure that there is a general improvement in the
rate of the level of production. Based on the information regarding the employees in the
organization as well as their exposure to working in legal offices, they would have been able to
prevent this issue before it occurred.
Informing them regarding the illegal activities that were occurring would have assisted
the employees in preventing the thing from happening although one may not conclude more
regarding the issues that occurred based on whether the case occurred as stated or whether the
advocates in the department had minimal exposure ad knowledge regarding the illegal as well as
unethical operations that were happening in the engineering sector (Kultonov et al., 2017).
however, regardless of the conclusion regarding the issue and the legal information that the
lawyers had, it is clear that the management of the organization needed to have more information
regarding the internal issues that were occurring in the various departments in the organization.
The engineering sector in the company is the main factor that resulted in an increase in the rate
of engagement in criminal behaviour. Based on the effects of the issue, the manager of the diesel
division in Volkswagen may need to offer an apology to the shareholders, customers as well as

other participants who are required in order to promote the performance of the company. Since
the manager has a role of ensuring that the organization offers quality services and improves the
relationship that it has with the members of the general community, it would be necessary if the
management addressed the possible factors that were bringing about the negative encounter with
the target audience (Baumgartner & Rauter, 2017). The manager in the engineering department I
would ensure that I learn regarding the people working below me and this would enable me to
ensure that most of the choices and actions that are made can be easily managed.
Additionally, allowing all the people to participate in decision making is another measure
that the manager needs to consider in order to reduce the chances of having the problem
occurring. The approach would also enable the management to have control on the operations in
the organization and with this would allow the administration to ensure that there is an
improvement in the rate of performance and at the same time reduce the chances of occurrence.
Considering the image of the organization as well as the wellbeing of the customers and other
dependents of the company would lead towards the creation of policies that are likely to reduce
the chances of failure in the company.
Part 2 As the CEO of the diesel division of Volkswagen, how would you have responded
when the situation became public? How would this response prevent future incidents?
The managerial team in this organization, especially the top management, is one of the
areas that may suffer more in reference to the occurrence of the issue. In that regard, the CEO of
this company may have high-level disappointment on the occurrence of the problem in question.
As the CEO, I would show the initial concern on the people who were affected by the issue in
question. Since no manager in an organization would want to be associated with a scandal that
would jeopardise the relationship of the organization and the general community, I would ensure

that up to put in place measures that would enable the community to gain more knowledge
regarding the intentions that the organization initially had. In addition to this, I would allow the
community to have a say on the matter since they are the one who is affected more by the issue.
In this, the manager would be required to create an open forum for the general community to
make suggestion ion the measures that the organization may need to put in place to address the
occurrence. Since many people are affected by the actions of the department, the CEO must put
efforts that may show the readiness of the company to make things right. Also taking ownership
of the issue that occurred is another approach that may need more consideration to enable the
community to learn more regarding the willingness of the management to manage the issue and
prevent a related problem from occurring in future.
Trust is one of the critical factors that lead to the improvement of the general relationship
that exists between the organization and the community (Proctor, 2018). having measures that
may point towards the improvement of trust between the organization and the community it
serves and the people who were offended by the issue is one of the considerations that the
management should put in place. In this, the CEO may need to ensure that he puts in place some
approaches that may show the customers that the company is willing to elevate the level of trust
existing between the two parties. Additionally, the CEO will also need to ensure that after raising
the standards of trust between the company and the customers, the organization refrains from
engaging in operations that are likely to tarnish the levels of trust existing between the two.
Based on the Biblical view regarding the approach that the CEO would need to put in
place is that it is better to create means that are likely to address the name that the company has
and in that case not to focus on wealth and otherworldly favours that may not address the
performance of the company. Although the improvement of revenue is the main objective of the

organization, the CEO must know that money is not everything in the world. They should have a
right name that is linked with the operations of the organization and improves the relationship
between the organization and the community it serves and not to have more financial resources
that may make the company stop focusing on the needs of the general market.
