A new team of management has taken over. As a result, organizational changes from a country-
club style leadership where everyone does whatever they want has changed to a more
mechanistic, structured, top-down management style.
What ethical issues should the employees consider and how should they go about addressing
these?
Make sure to address an ethical issue in the post. An answer of no ethical issues will not earn
credit on the essay.
Such an extreme shift from the country club style leadership to
the more structured style will pose a very tough transition for the
employees. During this transitional time, it is important for
management to understand the adaption that has to occur during this
period and be mindful to be open to concerns from employees. Such a
strict management style can easily become so autocratic and over
assertive that employees may begin to feel that they are enslaved
instead of at a place of work. It is important that managers do not
cross any ethical boundaries by demanding employees do unethical
activates nor make hasty decisions for the sole purposes of greed.
They must devote themselves to instilling the new rules into their
mindsets all while taking measures to develop their skills in order to
fully mesh with the new management style. At the same time, the
employees themselves have responsibilities as well that they must
adhere to in this transition. They must adhere to the new rules and
adapt to this new leadership style to the best of their ability.
Colossians 3:23 states "Whatever you do, work at it with all your
heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters". This is the
attitude the employees should take. Employees should not allow for
the new management to force them into making any unbiblical
decisions or infringe on their ethics in any way. Should this occur and
the parties can't come to a mutual agreement then it would be at that
time that the said employee should look for other employment.
Freshly coming out of an International Business course, I now
know the complexities that come with conducting business overseas.
One very important component about international business is being
very knowledgable on the culture of the environment in which you are
trying to conduct business. Had ABC Company conducted proper
research they would have known that XYZ Company did not belive in
women being in the board room. Proper research would have
prevented a lot of embarassment and discomfort for all parties
You work for ABC Company that does a lot of business overseas. ABC Company has sent their
best team, of which you are a part, to do a presentation to a new highly important client, XYZ
Company. The team is led by a female that has done more international presentations than
anyone else in the company, who has been with the company since its inception, is highly
recognized throughout the industry, and the one person who has mentored you throughout your
career at ABC Company. As the team patiently waits to begin their presentation, a member of
XYZ Company’s management informs you that the meeting will not begin, and the XYZ
Company’s management will not come into the room, until the female team member leaves. It
quickly becomes apparent to you that the XYZ Company’s management team believes females
should not be in the workplace.
Does this situation cause any ethical issues?
What options should you consider in the handling of this situation?
How do you approach your team members?
Your team members ask you for your advice on how to proceed. What are your
recommendations?
You will want to address all four questions fully in your essay
involved. With this said, representatives of ABC Company must
respect the culture of XYZ Company without crossing any ethical
boundaries. While I strongly feel sexual discrimination is wrong by all
means, that does not make it unethical simply because two different
culture possess two totally different beliefs. I Corinthians 9, through
the apostle Paul explains this in detail. Verses 19-23 clearly explain
that even though we don't live under the law of a certain culture we
must try to experience things from their point of view all the while
keeping our bearings in Christ. So hence, I would explain to my team
and the female member exactly what is going on in a manner that will
keep everyone at peace while still allowing the ABC Company to
continue negotiations. As a part of this company's best team I would
assume that every member of the team is well versed on the entire
presentation and that everything would not rest in one person's hands.
Henceforth, I would recommend that the presentation continue
without the female leadership and we do the best we can within ethical
reason to still close the deal with XYZ. The best way to represent
Christ is to love in spite of; even though our female leader had to be
dismissed from the meeting consider how great of a testimony the
entire team could be to others in another country if we handled
ourselves as Christ would want us to. Upon return to company
headquarter they could celebrate not only the closing of a great deal
but also maybe that they had a impact and showed God's love through
their temperament, understanding and love to others in a strange land
just how God would see fit for them to do.
