Abstract
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE ASSIGNMENT 2
Taking a look at strategies and how to implement them in an organizational culture is important
when there is a change needed. When dealing with internal distrust and competitive behavior in a
company, the right strategy needs to be chosen to ensure it is properly managed. The strategy
looked at here involves stories and language as the method of choice to remedy the situation.
Implementing this will rest upon the shoulders of the management and staff to participate in.
Biblically, there is an example of how this organizational culture can be changed for the good
and God’s involvement in it as well. Research also supports the change in behavior for
management to help instill change in the organizational culture that is problematic. It is
significant that it is noted how there is a direct correlation between the organizational culture and
behaviors shown by management.
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE ASSIGNMENT 3
Organizational Culture Assignment
When influencing organizational culture, it is imperative that managers ensure they have
an appropriate attitude and approach to the organization and the members of it. Although
managers can easily sway the current culture within the organization, one must remember that
there are also other influences as well that managers need to be aware of and be able to control
and curb. These influences could very well lead to a dysfunctional culture that can wreak havoc
within an organization. It is important to know how to strategize to keep a positive, functional
organizational culture.
Strategy
In this case, there has already been dysfunction settling in the organization so it is need of
a strategy that will remedy distrust within and competitive behavior. When dealing with distrust
and internal competition, a good place to begin strategizing is by taking a look at stories and
language. According to the textbook, stories and language can affect both customers and staff.
Therefore, it is important to be sure that the stories and language that surround the organization
are positive, encouraging, and inspiring.
This strategy is much better attempting others such as socialization which could simply
lead employees down the same path as their coworkers before them. Organizational socialization
is defined as “the process by which newcomers learn an organization’s values and norms and
acquire the work behaviors necessary to perform jobs effectively. (Jones & George, 2021, p. 65,
Socialization section, para. 2)”
ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE ASSIGNMENT 4
Implementation
Implementing this strategy will take cooperative teamwork by management as well as the
employees of the organization. When implementing stories and language, it is best to have
people on every level on one accord in order to restore trust and balance. The language can be
updated to show what the organization values and influence the culture to focus on productivity
instead of competing with one another. A transparent atmosphere will also help to dissipate the
internal distrust that is causing dysfunction within the organization.
The stories that are being told around the workplace need to be honest and not fear
tactics. Some coworkers will tell outdated tales from previous coworkers that usually lack truth
and only serve to put a negative connotation on the company. These stories need to be addressed
publicly to further instill that transparent attitude that breeds trustworthiness. This
implementation will be a quick start to the change necessary for the changes management is
looking for.
Research shows that “empowering leadership increases employees’ sense of thriving at
work, thus inducing behaviors which support organizational change. (Idris et al., 2018,
Employee empowerment and job satisfaction section, para. 1)” The need for management to be
fully immersed in the change needed for organizational culture is prevalent. Managers are often
looked at to set the example of how to behave. This is why it is paramount that the change
trickles down from management to the employees or in congruence with the employees in this
case of implementation.
Just as they are looked at, biblically it is important to look to God for guidance especially
in times of change. Deuteronomy 31:6 states “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in

dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake
you.” This verse shows that God is with you in all things regardless of the situation. In the text
by Merida et al., Hezekiah provides a good example of management in the way he restored Israel
from its evil ways. (Merida et al., 2015)
Conclusion
Using strategies is a very helpful method in a lot of different parts of management. This
particular situation can be helped by changing the stories and language that can be a big factor in
the dysfunction caused by the internal distrust and competitive behavior. However, with all of
the planning done, nothing can be changed without implementation of the strategy provided.
This would help management and the staff find solutions to their problems.
