Project 2 2
Step 1
Part 1: Personality Insights
Big Five with Myers-Briggs
This evaluation gave me some familiar insights that I was already aware of. After taking the Big
Five Personality Test, I received a score of 10 in all the categories. This was not surprising to me, as I
learned from Project 1 that I was labeled as ENFJ. From the self-assessment, it is said that a person who
scores high on this dimension tends to be outgoing, talkative, sociable, and assertive. (Kinicki, 2020)
Many of my colleagues would use these same words to describe my personality in the workplace. One of
the survey statements said, “I enjoy hearing new ideas.” My response to this was “very much like me.” In
the workplace, I love hearing new ideas. New ideas sometimes present an opportunity to learn a more
efficient way of doing something. The book Type Talk at Work describes an extrovert as one who
appreciates others’ input and reactions. (Kroeger et al., 2002 p. 123) I often tell my colleagues that if there
is a way to do a process easier that I may not know about, I would love to hear it. I appreciate my
colleagues’ inputs on projects and processes, as that helps me in becoming a better employee.
Attitude and Core Values Insight
I gained more knowledge about myself under this category. After taking this assessment, I scored
a 23 out of 30 for both initiating structure and consideration. The assessment said that since I scored high
on both dimensions, I exhibit behaviors that are associated with effective leadership. I believe this true.
For example, at my job, my manager lets me prepare and lead some of the monthly team meetings. After
the meetings, my manager allows the team to send him feedback on my performance to review. After I
was presented with the feedback, I learned that my team loves it when I preside over meetings. Because
of this, I now have the responsibility of running one team meeting a month. This is allowing me to
practice my leadership skills, in preparation for when another position (such as a manager position or one
that is higher up) opens up in the future.
Project 2 3
Motivation Insights
As far as the motivation insight, I scored a 27 out of 35. I do believe that in the near future, I
would like to manage a team. After reading the seven types of motivation, I can closely relate to the
competitive game. The self-assessment describes competitive situations as people who are competitive in
the workplace and are more likely to become managers. I would say I am very competitive in the
workplace. At my workplace, any time we have competitions, I always try to motivate my team to score
the most points and to work hard in achieving the goal. I also work hard myself, in an attempt to get in
first place. Being around sports all my life has shaped me to be this way. In high school and undergrad, I
played football, and being a part of a sports team has made me ambitious and cutthroat.
Decision Making/Problem-Solving Insights
As a Senior Client Support Consultant, I have to have good decision-making skills. One of the
self-assessment scenarios was, “I do my best work when my job assignments are fairly difficult.” My
response was “agree.” I agreed to this because I find this statement true. I love working in difficult
situations and I believe that this is was makes the job fun. As an extrovert, Type Talk at Work, states that
we tend to solve problems best when we talk them through with others. (Kroeger et al., 2002 p.123) At
my job, since we do take calls, our clients are wanting responses as soon as possible. They want someone
firm in their answers and people who know what they are doing. They will also want someone who can
assist them quickly and efficiently, and someone who understands their problems/needs.
Part 2: Working with Others
Communication Competency and Listening Style
I feel that I am a great listener (even though I am an extrovert, and we are not said to be great
listeners). Listening is the main key and one of the most important aspects of my job. If you do not listen,
you cannot accurately assess clients. It is said that the best skill in communicating is listening. The
book, Organizational Behaviors, defines communication as, “the exchange of information between a
Project 2 4
sender and a receiver, and the inference (perception) of meaning between the individuals involved.”
(Kinicki, 2020 p. 339) When I am working with clients, I always make sure I paraphrase back to them to
make sure I understand their problem precisely. This shows a person that you are listening to everything
they are saying.
Leadership Readiness and Team Insights
I do believe I am ready to become a leader of a team. After taking the self-assessment, Assessing
your Task - and Relationship-Oriented Leader Behavior, I scored a 28 out of 30 for Initiating Structure. I
also scored a 30 on Consideration. One area I would love to work on in the workplace is, explaining my
actions to the group. This will allow me to share my helpful tips and ideas with my team so they can be
successful as well. A great bible verse that compares to this situation is, Proverbs 11:14, “Where there is
no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety.”
Conflict Tendencies/Style
Conflict can happen anytime in the workplace. Indeed.com defines “conflict as when two parties
have different objectives, opinions, or styles.” In the workplace, conflict has to be dealt with
appropriately. You should always go to each person/party to get their reasoning and consider all parties'
opinions when trying to resolve the matter. One of the top conflicts in my company is there is always
constant change going on. In the payroll world, there will always be change. Some people may not be
used to constant change so that’s where the issues arise.
Part 3: Life in Organizations
Organizational Politics
I do believe organizational politics is a factor in the workplace. Organizational Politics is defined
as, “intentional actions to improve the individual or organizational interests.” (Kinicki, 2020 p. 486) In
the self-assessment, a good statement I came across was, “Employees are trusted.” In my workplace, my
Project 2 5
manager will always come to me with any difficult situations that he may come across. One day I
questioned why he always selected me to assist. His response was, “I trust you to handle the situation the
best out of all of our team members.” This response makes me feel like all employees are not trusted at
the same level. I disagree with the statement, as managers should be able to confide with all of their
employees on some level.
Organizational Needs-Employee Satisfaction, Job Fit, Core Skills
Employee satisfaction is on the top of my list when searching for positions. Within my job, I
always want my work crew to feel like family. I should be able to trust them. For example, at my current
company whenever we are out of the office on vacation, we need someone to be a “back up” for us to
look over our cases, in case a client calls or emails looking for you specifically. I want to be able to trust
this person to treat the client the same way I would. I want to feel comfortable knowing they are giving
them the correct information regarding a case that I may have open for them. This level of trust influences
my employee satisfaction because if I cannot trust my employees, this leads to less satisfaction and makes
me feel uncomfortable with my colleagues. I want to be able to rely on my colleagues whenever I
want/need to take time off, and because we’re a small team, I also want us to be close-knit.
Step 2
After taking this personality test, I have learned that I should continue to work on my leadership
skills. I one day, want to lead my team. To do this, I must take the necessary steps to prepare myself. So
far, I have tried to learn something new from all the leaders in my company to see what I like versus what
I do not like, to try to instill those skills in myself for when I do get a chance to be a leader. I have also
learned feedback is good. You cannot improve without feedback. Feedback allows you to grow, and also
helps you learn what you should improve on. You will also have to be mindful of work-life balance.
Coming from experience, you can easily burn yourself out at any job. You should allow people to take
some time to relax and recharge themselves. This will lead to great employee satisfaction!
Project 2 6
Step 3
The Holy Spirit has molded me into the man that I am today. I love helping others and seeing
them succeed. When I was younger, I was always shy and quiet around others. Now I am always ready to
spark conversations and share with others. Along the way, I have met some amazing people who have
helped me out. For the people who have helped me along the way, they will have many blessings.
Proverbs 22:9 states, “Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.”
