Luke reminded us that Jesus promised a special gift of the Holy Spirit when he
left. We all thought he was going to finally free us from the Roman government,
but Jesus said all things are in God’s timing. We had to replace Judas, and
through prayer, we chose Matthias. Now we go tell others this great message.
We saw the Holy Spirit in action at Pentecost and it was amazing! There was fire
above everyone’s heads! People from different areas could all at once understand
because the Spirit enabled us to speak their language. Others thought we were
drunk. Peter embellished on all the things that God promised the Spirit could do.
He also told them of the prophecy of David concerning Jesus’ resurrection..
Three thousand souls were saved!
Peter healed a beggar who was crippled and he could walk again! When
everyone started gathering at Solomon’s Colonnade in amazement, Peter
convinced them to listen by telling them that God has spoken through prophets of
old. He told them that the man they had killed was Jesus, and it’s through His
power that the man was healed and that they could be saved.
Peter and John got arrested for preaching the Gospel. But when they were
brought before the high priest and elders, Peter gained power and boldness from
the Holy Spirit and never swayed from the message. They finally let them go
because they were impressed with their courage and that they had been with
Jesus. Peter prayed with boldness to all the people and the place was shaken up!
We were excited that all the believers shared their possessions with each other!
Ananias and Sapphira sold some land to give the money to us, but held some
back. To nobody’s surprise, they unfortunately both died because of their sin.
When we, the apostles, started healing people, the Sadducess got jealous and
arrested us, just like Peter and John, but an angel set us free! We were threatened
to be killed. Luckily, Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, stood up for us and
convinced them to let us continue preaching!
There was a group of widows who weren’t being given enough food during the
distribution by the Hebrews. We had to delegate seven men to fulfill the task of
making sure that was rectified so we could continue our ministry. Stephen was
brought before the Sanhedrin and forced false witnesses against him.
Stephen spoke to the Sanhedrin about the history of the Jews, telling them the
story of Abraham and Moses. He told them that God chose Moses to lead them
out of Egypt to safety. Instead of being thankful, they built an idol. Stephen told
them that they are just like their ancestors, and admonished them for their sins.
Instantly, they started reacting just like the oppressors before.When they started
stoning him, he saw a vision of Heaven. It was amazing to see his bravery as he
was stoned to death!

Acts 8
Saul started arresting all the believers. Philip went to Samaria and saw that
people were amazed by Simon the sorcerer’s magic. He saw Philip’s power was
greater and wanted to buy it from him, but Philip led him to believe in God. Peter
and John came to Samaria and with laying on of hands, the believers received the
Holy Spirit. The Lord told Philip to go south toward Gaza, and on the way, he led
an Ethiopian to Christ and baptized him. But then Philip disappeared and landed
in Azotus! That really was an amazing miracle!

Acts 9
Saul went on a journey to arrest believers, but on the way, was blinded by the
Lord. He spoke to Saul and told him to go into Damascus. He was blind for three
days. The Lord sent Ananias to lay hands on him, and right before our eyes, his
sight came back and he received the Holy Spirit! He started telling others about
Christ, but people were afraid of him and we had to protect him from them.
Meanwhile, in Lydda, Peter healed a paralytic named Aeneas and raised Tabitha
from the dead! The Holy Spirit was working many miracles through us!

Acts 10
Cornelius was a Gentile devout man of God in Caesarea. In a vision, an angel
told him to send for Peter to come there. He sent men to Joppa to retrieve Peter.
Meanwhile, Peter told us that God sent him a vision telling him to kill and eat all
these animals that were impure but God told him it was okay. We were very
confused about it all. Paul was a Jew so why would God send him to a Gentile’s
home since it was against Jewish law? Then, he realized that the message from
God was not to be impartial, but that God loves everyone in all nations. Then
sure enough, the Holy Spirit descended on everyone and Peter baptized all who
believed.

Acts 11
Peter was questioned about going to a Gentile’s house. He explained to them
about his vision and that God gave the same gift of Jesus to both Jews and
Gentiles. When they understood, we were relieved. It was wonderful to hear that
people were traveling everywhere to talk about the Lord. Barnabas went to
Antioch and he and Saul stayed there at that church for a year teaching them.
That’s where we first got the name of Christians. When a prophecy came that
Judea would get a famine, we knew the right thing to do was to send them relief.

Acts 12
We were devastated to hear that King Herod had James killed with a sword!
Then, Peter was arrested, and our faith waned. We were at Mary’s house praying,
and all of a sudden, Peter was at the door! He said an angel had led him out of
prison right in front of many guards. Herod got what was coming to him when he
was speaking to the people, and he was stricken by an angel and eaten by worms
and died.

Acts 13
Guided by the Holy Spirit, we laid hands on Saul and Barnabas to go preach on
their own. In their travels, they came to Paphos, where a sorcerer tried to
discredit them to persuade the governor not to listen to them. Immediately, the
Lord caused him to go blind and the governor was so impressed, he believed!
They then traveled to Pamphylia, where they told the story of redemption

sought to evict them from the city. Saul and Barnabas did what we were all
taught to do: They wiped the dust from their feet and the Holy Spirit filled them
with joy!

Acts 14
In Iconium, Paul and Barnabas were doing miracles and teaching boldly for the
Lord. When we found out that some of the people there were planning to stone
them, we were so afraid for them! However, they got word of it and went to
Lystra and Derbe, where Paul healed a man who was lame from birth. That made
everyone think they were gods, and started worshiping them. We knew that was
not our goal at all. But all at once, people came from Iconium, got a mob
together, and stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city. We were amazed that
he and Barnabas would risk their lives to go back into the city, but they sure did!
Their commitment was amazing as they went back to Lystra, Iconium, and other
cities before coming back to Antioch.

Acts 15
Poor Paul and Barnabas now had to deal with all the Pharisees concerning the
legaslism about circumcision and how the Gentile converts should be
circumcised. They came to Jerusalem and we all met together to discuss it. We
decided instead of focusing on that custom taught by Moses of circumcision, it
was best to advise them of certain sins they should avoid. Therefore, we wrote a
letter to the people of Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia, and Judas and Silas were
chosen to go back with Paul and Barnabas with the decision in the letter. After
that, because of a disagreement, Barnabas took Mark to Cyprus to minister, and
Paul and Silas went to Syria and Cilicia to help strengthen the churches there.

Acts 16
Paul asked Timothy to join them, but since he had a Jewish mother and a Greek
father, they decided it was best to avoid the previous controversy and have him
circumcised. As they traveled, the same Holy Spirit that has always been with
them kept them from going into Asia. We realized that the Holy Spirit not only
helped us perform miracles, it also guided us. He also stopped them from going
into Bithynia. However, the Spirit gave Paul a vision to go to Macedonia. They
went to a lot of different places, and we were thankful that Lydia was baptized
and opened her home to them. They told a story about a girl who seemed crazy as
she was constantly yelling about who they were. She apparently had a spirit
inside her of fortune-telling and knowledge. However, Paul recognized it was an
evil spirit and cast it out of her. That stirred up enough trouble to have them
beaten and arrested. Just like before, the amazing power of God released them
through an earthquake. The magistrates that arrested them were surprised that
they were Romans and escorted them out of prison.

Acts 17
When Paul, Silas and Timothy came to Thessalonica, Paul preached in the
synagogue, as was his usual custom. He told the same story that we were all
telling everyone, and that was the message of Jesus sacrificing his life for their
salvation. The Jews once again antagonized the crowds. They went to the house
where they were staying, which was Jason’s, and dragged them out to be
Paul preached in
Thessalonica. Paul
and Silas face a
mob. It followed
them to Berea.Paul
punished, proclaiming that they were undermining Caesar by talking about
another king. Then the three went to Berea, where they were more receptive.
Unbelievably, the Thessalonicans followed them trying to stir up trouble again.
We can’t imagine how frustrated they were to have to endure that again. Paul
decided to go ahead of them to Athens, but was upset when the whole city had
idols everywhere. When he told the story of Jesus’ resurrection, some of them
believed and became followers of Paul.

Acts 18
When Paul went to Corinth, he met Aquila and Priscilla. They were tent makers,
just like Paul. So he started working with them. When Silas and Timothy got
there, Paul resumed his preaching and testifying. We were not surprised that the
Jews revolted against him again. He finally told them he was done with them and
would only preach to the Gentiles from now on. We could identify with his
frustration. The Lord sent him a vision encouraging him to keep on speaking and
not to be afraid. He was attacked and brought before the governor, but the
governor didn’t want to deal with it. Even though he had been persecuted so
many times, he still traveled to us and encouraged us all.

Acts 19
When Paul got to Ephesus, he ran across some disciples that had been converted
by us. He found out that they hadn’t really been baptized, so after baptizing them,
he laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. We knew that was
necessary because we have no power without that. Paul stayed there teaching
them for two years, all the while God was doing wonderful miracles through
Paul. However, the Jews were mocking us and saying they could drive out evil
spirits. They came across an evil spirit that knew they were not devoted to God,
and jumped on them and beat them. That led many to repent in the city, as we
suspected it would. A silversmith who built the idols caused a riot in Ephesus
because they worshiped Artemis, a goddess statue. Some of Paul’s traveling
companions were brought before the government, but nothing came of it. We
were relieved to hear that the city clerk dismissed the charges against them.
Paul gave the Holy
Spirit to some
disciples. God
stepped up Paul’s
power. Evil spirit
revealed fake
disciples. A riot in
Ephesus.
Acts 20
Paul encouraged the disciples in Ephesus and spoke in Macedonia and then went
to Greece. Alas, the Jews were still plotting against him, so he backtracked to
Macedonia. We joined him at Troas, where he spoke to us until way past
midnight and into the early hours. A man named Eutychus went to sleep and fell
three stories to the floor and died. Paul threw himself onto him and said that he
was alive. We sailed to Assos and picked him up to go to Miletus. He sent for the
elders at Ephesus and spoke to them with great compassion and emotion. He told
them he knew he was going to face hardships, and that they should trust in the
Holy Spirit for guidance. He told them it was the last time they would see him.
We suspected that the Holy Spirit had let him see his future. It was encouraging
to see his bravery and how much he loved them.

Acts 21
Our travels continued through many locations proclaiming the word of the Lord.
We came across a prophet named Agabus. He took Paul’s belt and said the owner
of it would be bound. We begged him not to go to Jerusalem, but he said he must

go. We sadly said that the Lord’s will be done. When we arrived in Jerusalem, it
was wonderful to see the warm greeting. Soon thereafter, the Jews from Asia
finally got the city stirred up enough to drag him and tried to kill him. Paul asked
permission to speak before being arrested and it was granted.
Acts. 22
Paul spoke to the crowd who had just arrested him. I have always admired his
fortitude. He explained to them that he used to persecute Christians and had them
put to death. He recited his story of being cast blind by God and how he believed
in God after that. He told them of his commission to be a minister to the Jews
and the Gentiles, but they wanted him to be beaten and die. When he told them
he was a Roman citizen, the commander withdrew the sentence of flogging. He
knew that a citizen could not be punished without first being found guilty of a
crime, which he had not been. I can’t imagine the relief he felt.

Acts 23
The commander brought Paul before the Sanhedrin, the supreme council of the
Jews. He spoke to Ananias in his own defense, but Ananias ordered him to be
smitten. Paul then spoke in an outburst to him, but found out Ananias was the
high priest, of whom it was unlawful to speak against. If Paul didn’t recognize
him as the high priest, we feel that Ananias was probably not displaying himself
as such. Paul told them that he was a Pharisee and that he believed in Jesus’
resurrection. Then the Pharisees took up for him, but the Saduducees who did not
believe in Jesus started fighting with them. In jail that night, God appeared to
Paul again reassuring him to take courage as He had done in the past. There was
a plot to kill Paul, and we were relieved that his nephew heard it and warned
Paul. The commander snuck him out to Caesarea and gave him to the governor
there.

Acts 24
Five days after Paul got to Caesarea, Ananias traveled there to be a false witness
about Paul to the governor Felix. He accused him of stirring up riots and being a
troublemaker. Indeed, anywhere Paul went, there was certainly upheaval, but it
was only because the unsaved Jews wanted him dead, and they were the ones
who caused all the mobs to form. Paul denied the charges and said the only
reason he was on trial was because of his proclamation of Jesus rising from the
dead. Felix kept him under guard, but allowed him some freedom. When Felix
sent for Paul to talk to him, Paul spoke about his faith in Christ. Felix became
fearful because he knew he hadn’t been a righteous man. He dismissed him, and
kept him in prison for two years, even up to his succession by Porcius Festus.

Acts 25
Festus went to Jerusalem, where the Jewish leaders were still trying to get Paul
there so that they could kill him, even after two years had passed. We were
surprised that they still had that vengeance against him. When Festus came back
to Caesarea, he had Paul brought before him, and sure enough, the Jews had
come from Jerusalem to try and charge him. Paul was asked if he would face the
charges in Jerusalem, but he said he wanted to be tried before Caesar. Festus was
confused because he could not see any charges that were against the law of
which Paul was being accused. He consulted with King Agrippa and asked him

to see Paul since Festus didn’t see any reason that Paul should be killed. We were
very concerned each time Paul was brought before someone since there was no
one there to speak on his behalf against his accusers.
When Paul was brought before King Agrippa, he allowed Paul to plead his case.
Paul reiterated the story of how he used to persecute Christians and hunt them
down. He told the story of how he was made blind by God and then got his sight
back, convincing him of God’s power. He said that he had not committed any
crime against the Jews or the government. The king and Festus spoke privately
and they agreed that Paul had not done anything that was worthy of death or
being imprisoned. Now we were hoping that he could be set free, but Paul asked
to be brought before Caesar.
Paul was handed over to a centurion whose name was Julius. They boarded a
ship to go to Rome. They stopped in Sidon, where Julius allowed us to see Paul
and tend to his needs. We were so thrilled to see him! We were glad that Julius
had formed a trust for Paul. They found another ship and set sail for Italy. The
winds were starting to pick up, and Paul suggested that they wait it out, but Julius
wanted to go on. The storm was ferocious! An angel came to Paul and he was
once again assured by God for the third time not to be afraid. Paul encouraged
the crew to eat and not be fearful. This was just like Paul to encourage others and
be a person caring for others. The storm grew stronger and finally the ship struck
a sandbar and fell to pieces. The soldiers who were guarding the prisoners
wanted to shoot them, but since Julius had grown to care for Paul discouraged
that. They swam and rode the planks to shore.
They washed ashore at the island of Malta, where the islanders showed great
kindness to everyone on the ship. As Paul was gathering wood for a fire, a viper
rose up and bit him. Everyone thought he was truly wrong since he was going to
die anyway from the poisonous snake, but nothing happened at all to him. We
would have loved to see the look on their faces when Paul went on with life as
thought he had never been bitten. When the chief officer welcomed them into his
home, Paul healed his sick father. Then all of the people of the island who were
ill came to him and were healed by Paul. They stayed there three months, and
then set sail for Rome. When Paul spoke on his own behalf before the Jews, they
knew nothing of the accusations that had been brought against him. So once
again, as usual, Paul began preaching the Gospel to large numbers. Paul was
allowed to live as a free man in Rome for two years, all the while boldly
preaching about the Lord. We were exceedingly glad that his persecution was
over.
