Romans 8:28-39
1. Do all bad events have a good purpose? V.28
2. Jews love God but some don’t accept Jesus as Savior. Do things still work out
for the good for them? V.28
3. Who is “who have been called?” Do they all have to be Christians? Doesn’t God
use non-Christians or His purpose sometime? V.28
4. “For those God foreknew” sounds like God didn’t know some of us but
doesn’t God “know” everything? V.29
5. Does predestined mean that God hand-picks His followers? V.29
6. When Paul uses the word firstborn, are we talking about Jesus being the first born
in his family with Mary and Joseph or is this related somehow to water baptism?
Being born again in the Spiritual sense? V.29
7. Kletos vs. Kaleo, both words are translated “called” but why does Paul use these
two different Greek words? They seem to mean essentially the same. V.30
8. Does God call, justify and glorify us before we even have a chance to make a
choice or does He know that we will already make those choices? Why would
God glorify (doxazo – give praise or honor) us, does this show us how much He
loves us? V.30
9. Why does Paul answer a question with a question? Is this just to drive the point
home? V.31
10. If He gave his Son for us “all” than are we all predestined? Have we all been
called, justified and glorified or did He only give His Son for a chosen few
“all?” v.32
11. Is Paul speaking of God and Jesus when he says “...how will he not also,
along with him…”? v.32
12. When Paul speaks of graciously giving all things, again it’s referring to all
things according to God’s purpose? V.32
13. Who would bring charges against God’s chosen? Are we talking about Jews vs.
Gentiles, believers vs. nonbelievers, soldiers vs. citizens? Clearly all of these
people at one point or another brought charges against Jesus. Wouldn’t we
expect the same treatment? Does Jesus tell us to expect the same abuses? V.32
14. Is Paul referring to a judge when he asks “Who is he that condemns?” Than he
parallels that to the one true Judge, Christ? V.34
15. How does Jesus intercede for us? V.34
16. Again Paul answers a question with a question. The question is “Who shall
separate us…” but could the question really be “can anyone separate us from the
love of Christ?” v.35
17. Where is the scripture Paul referenced found? Is this just a figure of speech? The
idea here is Paul will continue to have confidence in Christ regardless of the
situation. V.36
18. If we are more than conquerors, does that mean Christians never lose? Is Paul
talking about earthly problems and than trying to get us to focus on the “prize in
the sky” so to speak? V.37
19. Where does Paul receive this conviction? The same promises he had through
Christ are promised to us too but why don’t I feel as confident as Paul? V.38
20. In the last verse Paul tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
Could this be doctrinal scripture that supports eternal salvation? V.39
