In Romans, we are shown Gods divinity through all his creation. When God created the
world, He poured Himself into all His creation. We can see His wisdom in the complexity of the
world and how everything fits together like the pieces of a puzzle. We can see Gods beauty in the
colors of creation from the lands across the earth to the sea. However, with the beauty of creation
there was sin that had been thrust upon the world that tempted mankind and the only way to
protect humanity was through salvation, and through the loving mercy and grace of Jesus Christ.
Humanity was filled with a sinful nature after Satan tempted humanity, but sin does not
overpower the love or mercy that was shown to us when Jesus Christ died on the cross for our
sins. The bible states “for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus
Christ our lord” Romans (6:23)
The book of Romans teaches that salvation is not achieved solely by discipline or through
good works, but only through the Lord, Jesus Christ. The Christians in the world are not the ones
who are doing the saving, but are being used as vessels to do Gods work for the good of mankind
and our almighty creator. We are here to plant seeds in those who need salvation and the best
way to plant those seeds is through the gospel. The Gospel can either provide healing and
protection, or provide a sword and armor to stand fight against the evil that stands against us.
In the Jewish culture, it was taught that circumcision made the Jews holy, and they were
under the impression that following the specific laws and regulations laid before them would
save them from damnation or keep them holy. Paul continues to stress in Romans that through
works humanity will not be saved, and that only God can save the people within their culture.
Paul uses his faith as an example to the gentiles to let them know that faith is rewarded, and the
rewards are not granted solely through good works. Faith without works is dead. However, it is
impossible to have faith and not bear fruit, anyone can perform good works without having faith
in Jesus Christ. In Romans Abraham was looked at as the father and he was holy before he was
circumcised. This shows us that these verses stating that people had to of been circumcised to be
holy were wrong and that not all the laws in Jewish culture were right, and that some laws were
meant to be broken if they were not in accordance to Gods laws.
Romans also teaches us that humanity may be undeserving of salvation, but God still
sent his son to die on the cross even after all the sins we had committed against him. After Adam
and Eve ate of the fruit in the garden we were submerged in sin, but even though we were
brought up with a sinful nature God still chose to love us and His people after all the times we let
Him down. So much that He sent his so to die on the cross to reconcile those sins. We are taught
as Christians that we can’t live in the sin of the world and live in holiness at the same time. When
we are baptized, we are wiped clean from our sins and it is all washed away, but it doesn’t do any
good if we continue to commit the sins we were committing before we turned over a new leaf as
a new believer. Often times in culture today we tend to think that’s its okay to sin because we are
already saved. Knowing that humanity has eternal salvation can often be a crutch for people to
sin and to do as they please knowing that God is just enough to forgive us of our sins.
When we are feeling weighed down from the sins of the world we need to remind
ourselves and the Christians around us to have faith and hope that Jesus will always be with us.
We also need to keep others accountable in their daily walk to make sure that we aren’t allowing
the people we care about to become slaves to sin in the world. In romans 1 Paul was excited to
share the gospel to the saints in Rome, and I think we should be as well.
As Christians, it is important to remember that we belong to Jesus Christ and that once
we belong to Jesus Christ we are saved through grace, faith, love, and mercy. We need to make
sure that we are being a minister to others and leading those from all cultural differences to Jesus
and sharing these traits that were shared with us. When Jesus died on the cross we were set free
from our binds to sin, and we no longer belonged to the world but to the Lord in all of His
righteousness. These verses remind me that I am a follower of Jesus Christ and it is my sole duty
and purpose to go out and serve my enemies and share the love of Jesus with those who do not
get to experience his grace and mercy.
