Introduction
There are many important books in the Bible, but Genesis is one of the most crucial
books of them all. The very foundation of a Biblical Worldview is based in Genesis. Several
important events happen in the book of Genesis, from creation of the world to Noah’s ark. The
book of Genesis contains different key concepts that are applicable to our world today. It
explains about the Natural World, Human Identity, Human Relationships, and Civilization and
how it can be applicable to us today.
Natural World
God is relevant in our natural world today. He has influenced our world tremendously
through His works and His word. The beginning of the world is where He started it all. The first
chapter and verse in The Bible begins with Him Creating the world into existence. “In the
beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) God spoke the word, and the
world was created. This shows how much power and authority God has. The creation of an
amazing and gorgeous universe and earth shows how mighty God truly is. Later in Genesis 1:6,
God speaks, and He brings the existence of water. “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the
waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” (Genesis 1:6) God created water and the
deepest of the sea, which is a huge part of the natural world around us. Another way that the
book of Genesis has affected our natural word today is through the fall of man. In Genesis 3:7,
both Adam and Eve ate from the tree that God commanded them not to, and they realized they
had sinned. “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked;
and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.” (Genesis 3:7) My
Biblical Worldview is influenced by God’s involvement with the natural world because, we see
that He is mighty enough to speak anything into existence, whether it is the heavens and the earth
or the vast amount of water for the oceans. When I see the amazing things of His creation, I am
amazed by the incredible detail and intelligent design God put into it.
Human Identity
Human Identity is a key aspect of the book of Genesis and is influenced in the Biblical
Christian Worldview. God spoke many things into existence. He spoke the word, and the
heavens and earth were made. He spoke, and numerous living creatures were formed. After the
seventh day of creation, God made man. God did not speak, and then man was created. God got
down and personal with man and formed Him from dust. God breathed life into the man. “Then
the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of
life; and man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7) This proves that God not only loves us, but
took the time to personally create man; unlike His other creations such as animals and plant life
which He had spoken into existence. One reason that this supports my Biblical Worldview is the
fact that the almighty creator God spent more time creating and forming mankind than He did on
any other creation. This emphasizes that humans have a purpose among any other living
creature.
Human Relationships
Human Relationships are seen in Genesis and are important for a Biblical Worldview. A
common human relationship that is seen in Genesis occurs when God decides to give man a
soulmate. In Genesis 2:18, God states, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a
helper suitable for him.” God Then took a rib from Adam’s body, and formed a woman, Eve.
God than proclaims that a man, when he leaves his parents, and will be joined by his wife.
Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain and Abel. As they grew older, Abel would keep over flocks
while
Cain tilled the ground. When they brought offerings to God, Cain would bring fruits and harvest
as an offering to God, and Abel would bring an animal from his flock to offer. God had regard
for Abel’s offering, but not Cain’s offering. This caused Cain to become jealous of Abel and
decided to kill Abel. In later chapters, God tells Noah to build an ark for an upcoming flood.
Noah had obeyed and build a massive ark. After God ended the flood, Noah, Noah’s family, and
all the animals they brought onboard made it to dry land. From there, God blessed them and said,
“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.” (Genesis 9:1) The human relations were increased
at this point after the flood. Noah and his family had to multiply and fill the earth again since the
flood God brought had killed all the wicked people. These different events have shown that God
has had relations with His people such as when He created man with such passion and detail, to
forming a soulmate for man. This emphasizes that Adam and Eve loved one another and
developed a human relationship together. When Cain killed Abel, this showed the relationship
between brothers and the jealousy that led one of them to kill the other. Noah had faith in God to
protect them during the massive flood.
Civilization
Genesis displays how civilization truly began and the vast number of family that were
formed. Many people were trying to build a huge tower to heaven. This is known as the Tower of
Babel. God was infuriated by this and He distributed them all over the earth. “So the Lord
scattered them aboard from there over the face of the earth; and they stooped building the city.”
(Genesis 11:8) This is how the many different languages, races, and family lines were formed.
This chapter was a key to showing how civilization and the many family ties were all brought
from. This has influenced my worldview because it shows how God created the many different
races of people that we have now.
Conclusion
The book of Genesis is one of the most crucial books in the Bible. The very foundation
of a Biblical Worldview is based in Genesis. This book establishes the core of a Biblical
Worldview. Several important events happen in the book of Genesis, from creation of the world,
to Noah’s ark, to The Tower of Babel. The book of Genesis contains key concepts that are
applicable to our world today. It has the answers about how the natural world around us has been
created. It shows to us the human identity that God has placed in us. It examines the relationships
between humans, good and bad. It also shows the civilization of people and the many races and
nationalities of people. All of these topics are applicable to people today and for the rest of
eternity.
