Chapter 16 – How to Use Multiple Translations of the Bible
Studying the Bible takes dedication to learning what God has to say in the context he
meant for it to be in. If we only pursue one translation, we may miss what God is teaching us. To
study the Bible intentionally using a variety of translations is to seek out similarities and key

comparing the various phrases and words we see in text. Using a coding system to identify key
words that can mean different things depending on scenarios of the passage is wise and will help
one stay on track. To get the most from the purpose of the Bible, a person must devote time and
have an open heart to learning truth.
Chapter 17 – How to Ask Key Questions
The who, what, where, when, why, and how questions are great starting points for
noticing the significant facts in a biblical text [CartwrightHulshof (2019). (p. 98). Everyday

the answers to these simple questions, we can know the context of what an author of the book is
saying and how to apply these truths to our lives. We have to look at the greetings of the authors
to the recipients to catch onto the topic of the passages found in the book we are studying. While

we read scripture, it’s important to pace ourselves to be able to observe the answers we are
looking for, to capture the mystery of the text.
Chapter 29 – How to Connect Scripture to Other Scriptures
When we study the Bible, we observe and interpret, we can correlate to see where a
principle fit in other passages and gain a solid understanding of the consistent message
throughout scripture, where there is agreement rather than disagreement [CartwrightHulshof

https://app.wordsearchbible.com]. As one studies a passage in the Bible, it can be easy to get
caught up in that passage and its context and use it how we see fit to make it work for our
situation or needs. Using a passage without truly paralleling the message for consistency can
cause us to twist, add, or take away from scripture, even if we don’t have the intentions of doing
so. Comparing with other passages helps to avoid errors.
Chapter 31 – How to Live Out What You Learn
An objective for studying the Bible should be an intentional effort to live out what we
learn, application of truths and principles in our lives as we work out our salvation and are
sanctified. The four questions we should consider for applying the scripture to life include calls
to action and obedience, the type of person one should be, the motivations we have, and spiritual
discernment capability. If we are studying the Bible, as we should be as believers, we have a
desire to do the right things and be who God intends us to be. We should ask ourselves how we
are applying truths and does the application process we live out have an eternal impact. When we
properly apply a passage of Scripture, we are letting God speak to these desires.
