Passage: Acts 9:36-43
A. What points of application can be made using the “Four Questions for Application?”
State and explain 1 point of application for each of these four questions. Your explanation
for each of these points should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length.
1. The question of duty:
The question of duty in Acts 9:36-43 is the obedience a person should have when God calls upon
you. We are shown in the very beginning how God works through people. Tabitha was a well-
known Christian in her neighborhood and was well known for her good works of generosity and
charity. Her call of duty was to help the widows who lived in poverty and had no one else to
speak for them. We are shown again acts of obedience when the two men are sent to Lydda to
find Peter and bring him back to try and save Tabitha. Peter shows his obedience to God when he
went back to Joppa and prayed over Tabitha. Because Tabitha and Peter both followed their
duties that were called upon them by God, others in the town then started believing which is
what God wants; people to believe in and follow Him.
2. The question of character:
The question of character is shown through all the characters in Acts 9:36-43. Tabitha’s character
is shown when all the widows put their faith in Peter, praying he can revive her. By her following
her duty, she shows the type of character she is because she goes beyond to help the other
widows. The widows and two men show the type of character they have because they are caring,
reliable, and faithful. The widows pray over Tabitha because they do not want to lose her, but
they also show how thankful they are for her. The two men are sent to find Peter and instead of
turning down the request, they set out to Lydda and beg Peter to return with them. Peter is also
faithful and loving. Peter was asked to pray over Tabitha and bring her back to life. Peter was
praying and asking God for assistance. God was working through these people with the Holy
Spirit. If someone questions how their character should be, Acts 9:36-43 is the perfect example
of the model follower of Christ.

3. The question of goals:
The main goal of Acts 9:36-43 is to continue to expand God’s kingdom. When Peter presents
Tabitha to the widows, they believe in the power of God and that a miracle was performed.
Because the people of Joppa were able to see this miracle performed, they were able to help
spread the word of the Lord. Also, with Tabitha being brought back, her mission in life was
obviously not over and she continued to help spread the Word. Our goal in life should be to
become a better follower of Christ each day. Then each day we can spread just a little bit around
and watch the power of faith multiple. In Acts 9:42 we are shown how the one act of faith spread
throughout and led many people in the town to become believers in Christ.
4. The question of discernment:
The question of discernment is shown when God chose Peter and Tabitha to accomplish His will.
Every person has the power to make a difference in someone’s life. You never know what
situation someone might be in and just by you spreading the word of God could help them. God
gave Peter the means to raise Tabitha from the dead. This miracle demonstrated the triumph of
life over death. God chose them for a reason. The reason is He knew Peter and Tabitha were
faithful followers and would continue to spread the word of the Lord. An example of this is
“This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord” (Acts 9:42).
