Passage: Acts 9:36-43
A. What points of application can be made using the “Four Questions for Application?”
State and explain 1 point of application for each of these four questions. Your explanation
for each of these points should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length.
1. The question of duty
As Christians we are not only expected but, are responsible for sharing the word of God with
others. My duty to God is to share the good news in order to embark upon his promise. And my
duty to others is to help get them to Christ through the word. In Tabitha's story it tells us that she
was a disciple of God doing many good deeds for others, as a pillar in the city of Joppa. She was
placed in that city, and experienced death so that others could see the work of Christ. This
ultimately led others to believe. God used Tabitha as a vessel to draw people to believe in him
through the prayer and power through Peter. I pray that God continues to use me in ways that are
desirable to the kingdom of God. From time to time, I have struggled or lacked in the area of
duty due to fear. But then I remember that Matthew 10:33 tells us “But whosoever shall deny me
before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.”
2. The question of character
The holy spirit is at work through me by teaching me patience and self-control. Tabitha did good
deeds for her community, by doing whatever she could to meet a need. Peter did the work of the
Lord to produce believers of Christ by bringing Tabitha back to life. I should become someone
that controls how I respond in sensitive situations and when it comes to lending a hand to those
in need. James 1:2-3 reminds me “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials
of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” Patience
is something that I have struggled with also, which God has been testing me. Juggling 3 babies
and classes at the same time has tested my patience as well as self-control! I thank God for
keeping my mind in these trying times, because I have felt like giving up!
3. The question of goals
BIBL 104
In Acts 9:42 it says, “The news spread through the whole town, and many believed in the
Lord.” One of my main goals as a believer, is to be able to draw men unto him. Before
Peter came to Joppa, he was in Lydda healing a paralyzed man, which also turned many
people to Christ. It is amazing to me that Peter was going place to place doing the work
of the Lord so willingly, while some days I don’t even feel like getting out of bed. My
prayer is that God opens my heart to be a living vessel so that I might help bring others to
him. I am in pursuit of a transformation of how I share the gospel and my willingness to
share the gospel. How do I expect anything out of God if I can’t even give him the bare
minimum? This shines a new light on the goals that I am working toward.
4. The question of discernment
This passage has really opened my eyes to see that, some things have deeper meaning. I can now
see that the power of prayer and true belief can change things in an amazing way not only for
you but for others, which is the goal! In Acts 9:40 it says “But Peter asked them all to leave the
room; then he knelt and prayed. Turning to the body he said, “Get up Tabitha.” And she opened
her eyes! When she saw Peter, she sat up!” When I read this, I think about something my pastor
always says. If God will lead you to it, He will get you through it! I truly believe this because
nowhere do we read that Peter questioned God or was fearful of not being able to help the
people. I truly want to have a heart and mind like Peter, he was after Gods own heart. God
reminds us daily that he can use anybody to get results, and that’s what I love about him! He’s
ALWAYS there, without a doubt!
