As the first semester of my college career is coming to a close, I am shocked as to

where time went. This semester flew by and looking back I wish I could have taken it in a little bit

more and just enjoyed the moment. This semester was a completely new experience to me and

I have watched myself grow as an individual from it, which is a great feeling. Coming to college I

didn’t know what was in store for me, but now I can confidently say I am comfortable with where

I am at and I can’t wait for the years and experiences ahead.

This semester brought me out of my comfort zone in certain ways and I definitely learned

a ton about myself from these experiences. The most valuable thing that this semester taught

me is how to manage my time well. I am living on my own for the first time and that forced me to

become more responsible with my time and my academics. This semester forced me to hit the

books when I would rather go out, as well as pushed me to manage my priorities and make a

balance for work/fun. Another extremely valuable thing that my first semester at ASU taught me

was to be open to new things. I am on a campus filled with brand new people who I don’t know,

so I was pushed to go out and meet new people. I have definitely become more accepting. Even

though I learned so much about myself and gained a ton of vital tools, this semester wasn't all a

cake walk. My hardest challenge that I had to deal with this semester was holding myself

accountable to go to class. It is so easy to stay sleeping or blow off a class when you don't feel

like going, and I caught myself doing that multiple times. Getting up for my 9 a.m on Tuesdays

WPC 101

and Thursday's was very difficult and challenged my mental strength a lot. Next semester I will

avoid this by not scheduling early classes.

Going into WPC 101 I had no idea what to expect. The first few class sessions were a

different experience to be honest, but as time went on I started to adapt to it and enjoy it more

and more. The thing that I enjoyed the most about WPC 101 was definitely the class size. The

class was relatively small which made it feel friendlier and overall made going to class more fun.

2 of my very close friends who I met this year for the first time are in my WPC 101 class.

Without this class I wouldn’t have as good as a relationship with them. The LEAD project in

general has introduced me to so many cool, new people. Next semester I look forward to

meeting more people around campus as well as in my classes. One thing that I am most proud

of accomplishing this semester is becoming more outgoing. In the past i was likely going to keep

to myself when I was with people I wasn’t very familiar with. I have grown to reach out to people

I don’t know well and build a relationship. One specific example would be in my comm class. I

hardly knew anybody the first few weeks of class, but now as it is coming to an end I have great

relationships with multiple people.

Over the course of this semester I have learned so much new information about

business and the business industry. I have learned that communication and how you present

yourself is inevitable in the business world, no matter what field you are in. From the beginning

of the semester now at the end, my impressions of business have changed a bit. I know realize

just how much behind the scenes stuff goes into getting a respectable job, as well as being

successful in your career. Whether it is having a professional resume, or making the right

connections, I have daily been amazed at how much stuff goes into a career.

My first semester of college was a huge building block for me and I can’t wait to grow

more from it. I am extremely excited for my future at ASU in the W.P. Carey School of Business

and I am eager for the new experiences to come.
