questions in rank order of importance to you about FPL's nuclear power operations.
Each question needs to be insightful and specific, not oversimplified and generalized.

Is the FPL taking any measures to ensure the safety and integrity of the underground wells
used for wastewater disposal from the Turkey Point reactors?
Reason 1:
There have been documented incidences of contamination from nuclear reactors which in tur
heightens concerns for potentially threat of contamination to South Florida's drinking water
supply. This therefore makes it of utmost importance that safety protocols and long-term
plans in place in order to prevent potential risks. Doing this will ensure that the overall health
and well-being of the community through protection of the water sources

Does the FPL have any evidence or general scientist evidence does it have to assert that
storing radioactive waste in the Boulder Zone will not lead to contamination of the Biscayne
Aquifer especially given the presence of tectonic faults and karst collapse structures?

The potential risk of radioactive contamination of Miami’s drinking water supply is a
significant public health concern and potential hazard. This therefore makes it paramount to
ensure that that FPL's claims are based on rigorous, independent scientific evidence is crucial

What does plans does the FPL have to ensure there is continuous and transparent monitoring
of the Boulder Zone for any signs of radioactive leakage?

Given previous incidences that lead to leakage from Turkey Point's cooling canals there is

issues are addressed as soon as possible, This process will not ensure there is safety for rhea
community but will also be instrumental in generating community trust in its activities.

There is need to explore existing alternative methods as they possess the potential of provide
safer options for waste disposal. Furthermore, understanding the decision-making process and
why other methods w ere rejected can offer insights into FPL's commitment to safety and
environmental protection.
Question 5
Does FPL plan to address and mitigate the potential long-term environmental impacts of
radioactive waste storage in the Boulder Zone?
Reason 5:
Severe consequences to the public health as well as the environment can be associated with
log-term radioactive waste storage. With mitigation strategies in place, the FPL can ensure
that there is minimal long-term impact of the waste storage

What role will public input play in future decisions that the FPL engages in?
Reason 6
Effective community engagement ensures that the voices and concerns of those most affected
are heard and considered. By involving the community FPL can ensure that there is
transparency in the decision making process.
B. Other than using nuclear energy to produce electricity, briefly describe two other
ways in which FPL produces electricity for our purposes. (2 pts)
Apart from nuclear energy the FPL also generates electricity alternative methods like solar
power and natural gas. When using solar energy there is use of sunlight to generate clean,
renewable energy. Natural gas on the other hand ensures there is provision of efficient and
lower-emission electricity.

system and the storage of radioactive waste. With this in mind I want to appreciate that you
made it clear that focus should be on environmental and public health concerns. Regarding
your first question, the deteriorating state of the cooling canal system is indeed problematic. I
had also posed a similar question in the same schoolof: ""Is the FPL taking any measures to

the Turkey Point reactors?" This is a crucial point to note, as we need to understand the

Loi, your question about the potential risks of storing radioactive waste under Miami's
drinking water aquifer is essential and cannot simply be ignored. This is because if this issue
goes unaddressed, it is bound to have dire consequences. As previously noted, there were
historical occurrences of water contamination from nuclear plants. Canvassing past events
can evaluate the current risk levels. Your question about the long-term impacts on the local
ecosystem and communities is also critical. I also had a similar concern when a call was
made to FPL through the questions on “What role will public input play in future decisions
that the FPL engages in? ”
