Intermediate Sanctions and Support Services for Anthony: A Case Study
Anthony from our community is a client whose case demonstrates the difficulties and
possibilities of the process of reintegration of individuals with repeated relapses in criminal
justice system-related history due to substance use. Therefore, there is a need for an
intervention plan that focuses on the multiple arrests on charges of public intoxication,
disorderly conduct, DUI conviction, and the most recent arrest of public intoxication.
Thus, Anthony's significant challenges are complex. This is his regular dependency on
alcoholism, primarily through ethanol consumption, which has been a premise for his
apprehension in different legal institutions. It was also noted that this substance use disorder
is probably linked with behavioral problems, as he faced several disorderly conduct charges.
These offenses have been committed repeatedly, and therefore, there is an absence of proper
strategies to deal with his conduct source. At the same time, there are likely to be details of
the child's socio-economic background that could have precipitated his substance use and
conduct problems.
In response to such difficulties, this particular community provides the following
amenities that can help and intervene in Anthony's case. Outpatient and intensive inpatient
treatments are necessary to address his alcohol dependence and assist him in devising
methods to avoid a relapse. Partial care can involve Substance abuse therapy to discuss and
deal with the issues that compel him to use substances. Such a treatment process can help
educate Anthony on how to cope with rising situations, make good decisions, and handle
stress.
Financial help and training services are essential for increasing employment stability
among persons with disabilities that, in turn, may enhance Anthony’s possibility in his
recovery endeavors. If housing insecurity is an aspect, it may get him linked to housing

support services that can foster the rehabilitation processes through stability. Furthermore,
matching Anthony for tutoring/mentoring with a community member who faced some of the
mentioned adversities would be a wise choice (Cipriani et al., 2023).
In handling the more recent offense from Anthony, intermediate sanctions propound a
solution to conventional imprisonment. Probation is another punishment similar to probation
but with additional measures such as more precise supervision and rehabilitation. Thus,
intermediate sanctions that should be applied to Anthony should involve intensive
supervision probation (ISP), where he will have to report frequently and submit to drug and
alcohol tests. Laundry could impose more curfews and spatial confinement, including the
places that sold alcoholic products. Compulsory participation in day reporting could ensure
that one would have a daily schedule to follow involving drug dependency treatment and
therapy.
One might choose service to the community assignments as a form of punishment and
rehabilitation, where one could be placed in institutions dealing with substance abuse or carry
out community development projects. Any penalty should be accompanied by appropriate
fines within the economic capacity of the patient's financial status, in this case, Anthony.
Anthony plays a very central part in this process. He has to obey all the terms of his
intermediate sanction, pass all the sessions and programs, and be sober. It will also mean
creating a personal plan of not going to places and situations that may provoke such urges.
Participation in non-criminal behavior and developing a solid source of friends who are not
offenders will prop him toward success. It will provide structure and purpose by 'Looking for
work or engaging in a job search or by attending and participating in educational/vocational
training' (Meyer et al 2023).

About Anthony, this agency has several tasks and functions. The skills, goals, and objectives
we are going to employ include:
a) During intake, we will determine the client's needs,
b) Based on the needs assessment, create an individual case management plan
c) Provide linkage to other community services.
Essential services include follow-up on his development, counseling services, and
fighting for his rights in the justice system. Anthony's rehabilitation process must not be
divorced from the larger community as it significantly impacts the whole process. The
perception of substance abuse and people with an addiction can be changed through
awareness campaigns so that people embrace the patients and those going through
rehabilitation. Another factor that also has to be taken into account is the opportunity for
reintegration into the community, which is critical for behavior change to last. Recidivism
rates depend on the employers' willingness to give those with criminal records a chance at a
new life. Socialization, where clients receive treatment and support services and their sources
of funding, as well as the cultural acceptance of alcohol, are defining features of the
environment for recovery.
