1. How did your primary research for this essay go? Did you run into any problems? If so,
how did you solve those problems?
I think that my primary research went very well. I was lucky enough to know a doctor who
was willing to sit down and let me interview him. I decided to record the interview so I didn’t
have to write everything down and maybe miss something. The recording was about 17
minutes so I believe I got some great things that will help me with my essay.
2. Why do you think primary research is an important part of researching a topic? What
other kinds of primary research could you have done, given the time and the right tools,
to enhance your investigation of the topic you've chosen?
Primary research is very important to this essay because we are not experts or really involved
in the field, so primary research gives us a chance to see into the field our topic is on.
Without that my essay would just be stuff I read online, I couldn’t ask the question I wanted
to know. With primary research it gives you the chance to dive deep into questions that
wouldn’t be answered online, you get to understand the point of view from someone who
might deal with your topic on a daily basis. Given the time I think for my topic doctors
assisting in the death of terminally ill patients I think it would be really cool to actually fly to
Oregon where it is legal to do that and get a firsthand experience of what the process is and
how it is being accepted there. Also, how many people ask for it and how the family reacts to
it.
